PreMature E-Draftulation Results

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Fri Oct 05, 2018 4:56 pm

ROUND 1

1. Mike Trout, OF, LAA
2. Mookie Betts, OF, BOS
3. Ronald Acuna Jr., OF, ATL
4. Jose Ramirez, 3B, CLE
5. Francisco Lindor, SS, CLE
6. Max Scherzer, P, WAS
7. Jose Altuve, 2B, HOU
8. Trea Turner, SS, WAS
9. JD Martinez, OF, BOS
10. Christian Yelich, OF, MIL
11. Javy Baez, 2B, 3B, SS, CHI
12. Alex Bregman, 3B, SS, HOU
13. Nolan Arenado, 3B, COL
14. Manny Machado, SS, FA
15. Bryce Harper, OF, FA

I thought it interesting that the two free agents were selected last in the first round.

One pitcher? Will that be a thing this upcoming year?

No first baseman in sight.

Five Shortstop eligible players in the first round.

Any thoughts?.....

Arenado at 13 jumps out as a great value. But while I probably would have taken him over half of the players that went before him, I can see a case for most of those picks. So maybe that means it will be a wide-open first round?

I believe you're right and it will be wide-open this year, Steve. That is....After Trout/Betts or Betts/Trout.
I had several scenarios going through my mind after those two.
One thing I believe that will be different from last year is the top four pitchers being taken in the first round last year.
There is A LOT of offensive firepower to draft and the pitchers taken high are not THAT much better than those behind them.
At least, that is my take.

No way that Altuve justifies going at 7th overall and perhaps not even in the first round this year with the numbers he put up. There is just too much other talent this year that I would have ahead of him there. Can't argue too much with the way the rest of the first round went, although Harper is borderline with a couple of others that I may have went with there instead, but it's nitpicking.

ROUND 2

1. Aaron Judge, OF, NYY
2. Chris Sale, P. BOS
3. Jake deGrom, P, NYM
4. Trevor Story, SS, COL
5. Aaron Nola, P, PHI
6. Clayton Kershaw, P, LAD
7. Corey Kluber, P, CLE
8. Giancarlo Stanton, OF, NYY
9. Andrew Benintendi, OF, BOS
10. Charlie Blackmon, OF, COL
11. Blake Snell, P, TAM
12. Freddy Freeman, 1B, ATL
13. Adalberto Mondesi, SS, KC
14. Paul Goldschmidt, 1B. ARI
15. Juan Soto, OF, WAS

Here come the pitchers....6 taken in the second round

Five outfielders, two shortstops, two 1B

NO Catchers.

Altuve and Baez, the only two 2B eligible players taken in the first two rounds.

There have been no huge surprises. Although Paul Goldschmidt being taken so late in the second round could qualify.....

What do you think?......

Goldy 2:14  No way that should happen. Acuna/Mondesi?! :o Sounds like the start of a Vogel team. Obviously too much scotch in him the first couple of rounds. JD/Stanton for 100/250, Alex. 8-) And no catchers?! About fucking time people started to wise up a little, although without seeing round three yet, I'll lay money Sanchez is off the board given his performance last night obviously proving he's a safe bet to be healthy and productive all season for the Yankees in 2019. Honestly, when is the last time someone who drafted a catcher in the first couple of rounds said to you, "Wow! (insert catcher name) really won me that league title."? Much more often than not, it's "Fucking (insert catcher name) really douched me big time last year!" Keep 'em coming, Dough. And thanks again for leaving me out of this league yet again this year. :P

Correa last 2018 first rounder off the board @ 3/44. Six 2018 second round picks still on the board.

Would be nice to see these on a grid as Team 1-15 for analysis and commentary. Tough to figure this out at a glance looking at the picks as a list. Round 4 the most interesting to date as it appears to be all over the place based on how things shook out. So Kris Bryant doesn't do shit this year, and has a second down year in a row from his huge 2016 season AND he's has a shoulder issue, yet he goes mid-third round. But Rizzo, the model of consistency and health for the last four years gets no love and falls into the early fourth round. Must be the position eligibility. :P So where is Round 5 and 6? This draft needs better facilitation.

Maybe Zola or someone could send link to draft grid (without everyone’s names if that’s how it needs to be).

Rizzo over Bryant certainly makes sense. However, you know a lot of us. Why would we want a model of consistency when we have that “upside” that the other guy may go .300-40-120.

Although regarding the shoulder, why is that an issue in 2019? Seemed like several thought Carpenter’s shoulder would be an issue this year, and he finished 3rd in the NL in homers. You’re on solid ground with the 2 down years in a row although obviously the shoulder buried him this year.

Perfect Todd, I think that is exactly what they're asking for.

Apologies everybody, I got caught up in drafting and going back to Fantasy Camp and didn't update here. Sorry 'bout that.

To me, the biggest surprises of the draft were by the same drafter.
Mondesi in round two was a major surprise.
He showed well in his time up in the Bigs, but man, that is a large leap of faith!

The other was Marquez in the fourth round.
I know, I know, he has the strike out appeal and looked great, especially down the stretch.
But above all, he is a Rockies pitcher.
I don't believe any Rockies hurler has produced statistics worthy of a fourth round.
It should be interesting, both to see if he can return fourth round production and to see if his adp in later drafts holds to near the fourth round.

Let's be real: is there any money on this league? Because some people are drafting like there isn't.

This league has an Overall Main Event Winner.
Two or three multiple Main Event winners.
Main Event cashers.
Two or three NFBC Media types.
A drafter who finished in the top 5 Overall in the RotoWire competition this year.
It is stocked with great players...just an fyi :D

Jose Ramirez and Baez will not hold a 1st round value next year. No way no how. Harper in the first round? Why? Other thoughts but those are my first thoughts.

Opinions are great.
But we like statistics or something more to back up statements.
WHY won't Baez or Ramirez or Harper carry first round production next year?
Who would you have put in the first round instead?

And just a reminder, there were a lot of naysayers (I was one of them) when Ramirez went in the second round last year.
He produced first round numbers this year.

I just took Mondesi at the 5-6 turn and Marquez at the 6-7 turn (first Fantrax 50). Happy to have them both at those slots. But there is a comparison, anyway.

No way Jose Ramirez returns first round value? Honestly, I'm surprised there is criticism of taking Ramirez at 1.4; would think Acuna at 1.3 would be the far more controversial early pick. I'm not in this draft, and can understand some uncertainty or ambivalence about Harper and Baez as first round picks. You probably could make arguments for and against them going in the first or the second round. Won't be able to decide that myself without further analysis. While there is no way of knowing for sure how players will perform in 2019, Ramirez seems like a super-solid first round pick to me.

Stats? Here are a few:

2016: 11 HR, 84 R, 76 RBI, 22 SB, .312 BA.
2017: 29 HR, 107 R, 83 RBI, 17 SB, .318 BA.
2018: 39 HR, 110 R, 106 RBI, 34 SB, .272 BA.

While Ramirez did finish the season cold, and did nothing in a short, three-game playoff series, the guy is a fantasy stud. Five-category goodness personified. 39 HR and 34 SB. 216 combined R and RBI. I'll take that in a heartbeat to begin a team. I also like that the guy has been very healthy/durable, easily could qualify at 2B in addition to 3B depending on how the Indians handle their infield next year, and, oh by the way, guy is only 26 years old. Just my $0.02, but I seriously doubt he will slip past the first half of the first round in any draft.

Ramirez will go in the first round of EVERY NFBC draft. It's as simple as that. Drafting at 15 and seeing Trout, Betts, Lindor, or Ramirez still available just plain won't happen unless some off/season crisis arises.
Ramirez is a 30-30 player, building off a 29/17 season. To squawk about Ramirez being taken in the first round is clearly barking up a wrong tree.

Baez and Harper will be in a lot of first and second rounds. Both are bolder picks than Ramirez.
Both have Missouri/Missouri problems. Neither have showed drafters twice that they are first round material.
With Baez, drafters are looking at his power/speed combo. Myself, I believe that we have not touched the seasonal highs that we will see from him over his career. I'm impressed that he hit .260 every month of the season. Consistency is usually the last thing we see from sluggers like Baez.
In a year that saw the wind blow in more often than not at Wrigley, Baez hit .270 at home and a whopping .310 on the road.
Only 13 of his 34 homers came at the Friendly Confines. He can do better when the winds shift.
When combining that with 2B, 3B, and SS eligibility, he makes for a good pick.

Harper is different. There is hardly a more hyped player in baseball than Harper. Because of all this hype, we see Harper as being somewhat of a failure except for his big year in 2015.
Even in a 'bad' year, Harper still returns pretty good numbers. I agree that except for 2015, they haven't been first round numbers.
Still, there is good reasoning for taking Harper in the first round.
If having his big year, it will, indeed, be HUGE.
I believe that is what his drafters are aiming for when taking Harper.
None of us really know if it will come next year or not. But I can't criticize a drafter for picking him on the chance that it is another breakout season.

In my mind, Ramirez, Baez, and Harper are fine first round picks.
But then again, this is October and were 12 months from knowing the truth.
Until then, we're all right in our opinions. :)
