NFBC Message Boards

One thing we added in the last week to your League Home page is the KDS preferences received by each owner. We now have four columns listed there: FAAB Budget, the Random Choice Order, the Draft Preference Received by each owner, and the Final Draft Order.

The third column was added to show everyone what preference they received in that league. We can now all follow that column to see how many top preferences were received in that league and if KDS really did help the league as a whole.

Until the live drafts get rolling, we'll look at the Rotowire Online Championship to learn two things: 1)What was the average KDS preference received and 2) What were the draft spots that were most coveted.

Since the NFBC doesn't use Third Round Reversal, it's not uncommon for many owners to want an early draft spot. Owners who are randomly selected near the end may also get draft spots near the end. But let's learn whether that trend continues and even if it's correct in current drafts. We'll stay on top of this and then analyze the live drafts when they come too:

The average KDS received in this league was 4.17 as the Top 6 teams all stayed in the top half of the draft. But interesting, the 11th randomly selected team got its 1st preference with spot #10. The 10th randomly selected owner also got its 3rd preference with spot #12. So while the random selection didn't help this league much, two owners got their first draft preference and six owners got a Top 3 preference. Pretty good.

The average KDS preference received was 3.67 as two owners got their first preference and seven owners got a Top 3 preference. One owner was randomly picked 8th and still got his first preference, the No. 5 spot. The lowest preference received in this draft was 9, which went to the last randomly selected owner. This one worked pretty well as owners preferred different spots in the draft order.

The average KDS preference received in this league was 4.08, which means on average every owner got their 4th preference. Just randomly the average is 6.5. Three owners got their first preference in this league, while seven owners got a Top 4 preference. The lowest preference received in this league was 9, which again was given to the last owner randomly selected (the 9th pick).

This one didn't work as well as the average KDS preference received was 4.83. Two owners got their 1st preference (picks 1 and 8), while seven owners got a Top 4 pick. But one owner got their 11th pick as they were randomly selected 11th (the 11th pick).

The average KDS preference received was 5.25, one of our highest so far. Two owners got their 1st preference and six owners got a Top 4 preference, but we also had owners get their 9th, 10th and 11th preference. Those were also the 9th, 10th and 11th draft spots.

At the end of every year we look at the top teams in our contests and our league champions for this very reason. Every year baseball seems to be very balanced with our current serpentine format. 3RR is very badly needed in football and basketball and we have seen great results since switching to that more than a decade ago. But no, we don't see the need for 3RR in baseball at this point.

The KDS preferences received for this league was 4.167 as FOUR owners got their first preference (1, 2, 9 and 12). Seven owners got a Top 3 preference and nine owners got a Top 4 preference, but two owners did get their 10th and 11th preferences (11 again). This one worked pretty well. Interestingly all 11 owners improved their draft spot from where they were randomly selected, with the 1st owner getting his first preference of No. 1.

We also had someone get their last preference and another get their 11th preference as eight owners went 1-12 with their preferences.

I can post some of these 15-team DCs, but as I stated originally fewer folks are setting their KDS preferences in the DCs than the Online Championships. I certainly would in every one that I'm in, but maybe that's just me. In fact, I just looked at a handful of DCs that went off in the last 5 days and 7-9 teams kept it at 1-15. That isn't happening in the OCs, at least not to that level.

But I can grab some of those results if folks want to see them.

The average KDS preference received for Chicago was 6.13 as only the No. 1 pick got his first preference. That's because 12 owners listed No. 1 as their first preference. Eight owners got a Top 4 preference, but owners 13, 14 and 15 didn't get what they wanted. We're not seeing many people wanting to go to the very back of our 15 team formats and this is an example of that.

This league worked out well as the KDS preference received for each owner was 4.93 (pur random would be 8.0). Two people got their first preference and eight owners got a Top 4 preference. Heck, 12 owners got a Top 5 preference with the three other preferences being 8, 12 and 14. Well done everyone.
