FAAB Deadline Extended To 11 pm ET Tonight

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Sun Apr 28, 2019 7:23 pm

Sorry everyone for the FAAB issues tonight. The site was down almost 45 minutes and thus we'll extend the FAAB deadline tonight until 11 pm ET. Again, 11 pm ET FAAB deadline tonight.

We are evaluating what happened tonight and will update tomorrow. We will closely watch the speed of the servers tonight as well. Good luck and we apologize for the delay and the later FAAB deadline.

This is not enough. A lot of work was lost on multiple tabs. 45 minutes of down time could have been 2 -3 hours of real time.

We have all the faith in the world that this will be an issue that IT will spot immediately and fix. Therefore we will never have technology issues again!

Again, I want to apologize for the 1-hour delay last night. We are looking over everything involving the server issue last night and will do everything we can to solve this. We thought that eliminating the auto-Save feature in FAAB took care of the issue, but we will have to look over everything again today and take whatever measures are necessary to not let this happen again.

Dustin asked last night if we had any of these server problems in football and I quickly said no, we didn't have a single issue in football last year. We have more teams in the NFFC than the NFBC and we use the same FAAB software, so what is happening in baseball that isn't happening in football?

Well, we didn't have the auto-Save feature in football for every single bid, so that was the obvious reason, we felt. Problem solved, until it wasn't.

But we also don't have 15 games going on at the same time as FAAB in football. We also don't have Live Scoring and Live Standings for League and Overall on five national contests running at the same time as FAAB in football. Yes, there is only one MLB game going on during FAAB on Sunday night, but those same queries are being made constantly for Live Scoring and Live Standings during FAAB. We also increased the queries per minute for Live Scoring and Live Standings this year to make those features faster than last year and it's possible that so many queries are hitting the server at once on Sunday night that we need to look at that.

Now there are certainly much bigger sites that handle all of this at once without any problems. We have to figure that out too without cutting off Live Scoring and Live Standings each Sunday night. That can't be the only solution, but it certainly worked last night. We will figure this out.

Without sounding like Captain Obvious, we want this fixed even more than you do. It's no fun to have any issues during FAAB on Sunday night. We had three issues last year and we really thought we had this figured out for this year. We are back to looking at everything to avoid this problem again. The good thing -- and I posted this on another thread -- is that we tweaked the way FAAB runs and last night all bids were processed in 2 minutes and 24 seconds. So we have that part down. Now we have to figure out the server issues.

The FAAB software is not the problem; it obviously works in football and works in baseball. Something along with FAAB on Sunday nights is bogging down the servers to the point where they shut down, despite more than doubling the server space we had from a year ago. We are going to solve this. We are going to solve this. We HAVE to solve this.

Sorry again for the delay last night. It was no fun for any of us.
