Stuff and Junk

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Thu May 02, 2019 10:24 am

The Yankees have been hit with a lot of injuries. We know this because Yankees.
Throughout time, the Yankees have been known for their left handed batting.
Ruth, Gehrig, Maris, Mantle, Berra, Reggie Jackson, and Nettles to name a few, have all taken advantage of Yankee Stadium's short porch.
And all did a lot of damage on the road as well.
That tradition may take a break this year.
The Yankees have had one, count 'em, one home run on the road this year hit by a left handed batter.
The seldom-used Mike Ford doing the honors.
Leading Yankee home run hitter, Luke Voit, has hit eight of his nine round trippers on the road.
Gary Sanchez, only two homers at home, six on the road.
At home, the lefty tradition continues. Brett Gardner leads the Yankees in home runs with four in the friendly Yankee confines.
Mike Tauchman has three.

In a double header yesterday, 1B Jose Abreu garnered six RBI.
In the entirety of the season, Matt Carpenter and Joey Votto have five RBI.

.183/13/2/9/9
This looks like a Billy Hamilton line.
It's Jose Ramirez.

Batting ninth, the real Billy Hamilton has scored 13 runs.

First, nobody gave a rat's ass about number of pitches.
Then, they tried not to have Starters throw more than 120 pitches.
Then, 100 pitches became the 'warning sign' for Managers.
This year, only nine Starters are averaging even 100 pitches a game.
Trevor Bauer at 113 pitches a game is throwing 10 more pitches a game over every other pitcher in baseball.
No youngsters need apply, Here are the nine...

1 Trevor Bauer 113.6
2 Cole Hamels 103.5
3 Max Scherzer 103.1
4 Zack Wheeler 102.8
5 Justin Verlander102.4
5 Gerrit Cole 102.4
7 Lance Lynn 102.2
8 Jacob deGrom 101.3
9 Brad Keller 101.3

'Workhorse' Jameson Taillon is throwing under 80 pitches per game while San Diego, who supposedly, was limiting Chris Paddack has used him for 86 pitches a game.
I say 'pitches a game' a lot to see how many times Warren Spahn would turn over in his grave.

Nick Markakis may be the most under rated player in baseball.
Markakis is hitting a quiet .330
His lifetime batting average is .289
This will be his 14th year in the Majors, he has played in at least 155 games in all but two years.
In those 14 years, his lowest batting average was .269

.309/943/272/903/74

.289/1299/384/1628/34

The MLB Channel asked if Joey Votto should get Hall of Fame recognition.
The above stats are those of Votto's career, below that, those of the much maligned Harold Baines for getting into the Hall this year.
Votto does not even compare to Baines.
Votto is more comparable to this line...
,289/1061/181/987/64
Which brings us back to Nick Markakis.

Only one player in baseball, with qualifying at bats, does not have a home run or stolen base.
Miguel Rojas on the Miami Marlins.

Only five players in baseball, with qualifying at bats, have not yet hit a home run.
Jackie Bradley Jr.
Rafael Devers
Miguel Rojas
Jeimer Candelario
Brandon Crawford

Crawford may have the worst fantasy line in baseball....192/5/0/2/1 in over 100 at bats.

Since 2017, Miguel Cabrera has hit four home runs in his last 270 at bats...

If making a lot of money, San Diego is a great place to retire.
Just ask Eric Hosmer and Manny Machado.

The top nine ERA's in baseball...

1 Zach Davies 1.38
2 Luis Castillo 1.45
3 Joe Musgrove 1.54
4 Tyler Glasnow 1.75
5 Chris Paddack 1.91
6 Caleb Smith 2.00
7 Max Fried 2.11
8 Marcus Stroman 2.20
9 Aaron Sanchez 2.32

Yeah, we knew those would be the nine.....

Where did the Aces go?
They're here.
Just under a different category.
The top nine K's in baseball...

1 Gerrit Cole 65
2 Max Scherzer 62
3 Trevor Bauer 55
4 Justin Verlander 53
5 James Paxton 51
6 Luis Castillo 50
7 Jacob deGrom 49
8 Stephen Strasburg 48
Matthew Boyd 48

The only pitcher on both lists being Luis Castillo.

During the off season, it was said that with the Phillies bulking up, the Mets obtaining great players, and same with the Nationals, that the NL East would be a great division to watch.
They have been dull.

Here is the newly acquired Bryce Harper's batting line... 231/17/6/20/1

Yet, every time he comes to the plate, announcers treat him with Superstar status.
When Brandon Lowe of Tampa comes to the plate....crickets.
Here is Brandon Lowe's batting line...........................296/17/6/17/3
Harper continues being a HyperStar.

Some smart guy on a podcast said that one of the reasons Jose Peraza is struggling is because he has only walked two times.
I call Bullshit.
Tim Anderson has walked two times, nobody is saying a word.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

For perspective on Markakis, during the 2007 draft season, the two young outfielders that everybody loved were Nick Markakis and current Twins manager Rocco Baldelli.
