2020 MLB Season Opener: Thursday, March 26th

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Jul 22, 2019 2:54 pm

Major League Baseball doesn't officially announce its schedule for next season until September, but the Texas Rangers have already given a hint that the timeline will be very similar to 2019. In fact, the Rangers have said that MLB Opening Day will be Thursday, March 26th, the earliest start date in MLB history. Here's the release:

If that's the case, it looks like NFBC weekend in Las Vegas will again fall during Opening Weekend of March Madness, which is scheduled for March 19-22. Unless something changes, the likely NFBC schedule is:

New York - Friday to Sunday, March 13-15
Las Vegas - Thursday to Wednesday, March 19-25

Easter is on April 12th of 2020, so no issues with the holiday season. I don't expect anything to change, so plan accordingly. And of course Online drafts throughout the off-season and through March 26th (yeah, we ran some on Thursday morning this year and will again!!).

Now, who's joining us in New York City and Las Vegas? Mark your calendars and let's go!!!

I should be able to make it to New York once again this year. For anyone hesitant about making the trip, I was there for the first time last year and it's definitely worth it.

Hello! Love seeing some hard dates ... makes the live drafts somehow appear sooner.

Barring death or calamity, I intend to draft in NYC and Vegas next year. Two of the best weekends of the year ... Christmas in March for fantasy baseball owners!

I agree wholeheartedly with the prior post; anyone on the fence should try to experience NFBC live drafts - they are an awesome time.

So the Japan games will be played around St. Patty's Day? Or are they not being played in 2020? Good Lord, they'll have to start spring training the day after the Super Bowl.

Even so, they could still pull off a really early Opening Day from a weather standpoint. There are 14 teams that play either under a closed roof or in a temperate climate, divided evenly between AL (TOR, SEA, TB, HOU, TEX, LAA, OAK) and NL (MIL, ARI, MIA, ATL, SD, LAD, SF). Add in CIN as the 15th home team for the sake of tradition and there you go.

Maybe in 2020 instead of Japan they have two games in Montreal?
It would give the city an opportunity to show they’re serious about having a team again. Even if it’s one shared with Tampa.

How quickly can they dome the Big O? That’s still Winter in Canada. :(

So it looks like there are no MLB Japan games in 2020 because the Olympics are being held in Tokyo July 24-Aug. 9. There is a 2-game MLB series next summer in London, but nothing that I see in Asia or Mexico before the March 26th openers. For now, that’s good news.
