Bob Catsiroumpas Wins 2019 NFBC Cutline Title & $70,000

Bob Catsiroumpas of London, Ontario used a huge final week to win the 2019 NFBC Cutline Championship title and the $70,000 grand prize. Bob's Kikuchi Brained 1 team scored an amazing 860 points in Week 25 to vault from 6th place to 1st for the title and the $70,000 prize.

Catsiroumpas becomes our fourth different NFBC Cutline Championship winner in four seasons, joining John Magnozzi in 2018, Rian Lange in 2017 and Jon Stadtmueller in 2016. The $70,000 grand prize in this Best Ball format is the largest ever for the Cutline Championship.

Bob made the "final table" of 20 teams with the 14th highest scoring average as he headed into the final 3-week Championship Round. He posted a scored of 735 points in Week 23 to move into fifth place and then posted a score of 656 points to drop to 6th place through Week 24. But his 860 points in Week 25 vaulted him past five other teams in a week for the record books.

Kikuchi Brained 1 had 36 home runs and 95 RBIs in just 304 at-bats in Week 25 to post a hitting total of 655 points. It added 205 pitching points on six wins and 69 strikeouts, but it was the hitting barage led by Matt Olson (5 HRs), George Springer (4 HRs), Nolan Arenado (3 HRs), Randall Grichuk (3 HRs), Eloy Jimenez (3 HRs), Rougned Odor (3 HRs) and Kole Calhoun (3 HRs) that turned the tide for this team. It was such a barrage that players like Alex Bregman and Yuli Gurriel didn't even sniff the starting lineup.

Catsiroumpas edged Jaimes Salvi by 30 points for the title. Salvi had led the Cutline Championship through Week 24, but his 697 points in Week 25 couldn't hold him off and he had to settle for the $25,000 runner-up prize. Shawn Childs finished third, 38.8 points out of the lead, to earn $15,000, with Curtis Jones ($8,000) and Anthony Palavis ($6,000) rounding out the Top 5. All 20 teams in the Championship Round earned prize money.

Jon Stadtmueller of Little Rock, Arkansas, won our initial NFBC Cutline Championship title and in 2019 he was able to win our Wild Card Tier Cutline title. He earned $3,000 for that title as he edged Bryce Schnellenberger by 126.6 points for the top spot. Jon's winning total of 2,885 points would have been good enough for fourth best in the Championship Round as he put up totals of 770 points in Week 23, 719 points in Week 24 and 667 points in Week 25.

The Wild Card Tier paid the Top 5 finishes with Stadtmueller earning $3,000, Schnellenberger earning $1,500, Matthew Geoffroy earning $1,000, Tom Zarogiannos earning $750 and Schnellenberger again earning $500. Great job everyone and congrats.
