NEW THIS YEAR: NFBC Online Auction Championship

Last year we introduced our online auction software for baseball and liked what we saw. The software was slick and easy to use and we were able to get the auctions and serpentine drafts done in a timely fashion. In fact, the online auctions were far more popular in baseball than football, which got us to thinking about 2020.

We really believe that the technology has improved so much that it's time to really push the auction format. Several years ago we pushed this format from private live auction leagues to a national championship and that format continues to be strong among the three cities. During each of the last two years, we've filled 12 Mixed Auction leagues to form the NFBC Auction Championship, which now has a $30,000 grand prize.

So it's now time to take the next step and grow Online mixed auction leagues as well.

Thus, the introduction of the NFBC Online Auction Championship in 2020 with a $3,000 grand prize.

It's a modest start, but we believe the interest is there to grow online auctions going forward. These will be 15-team, mixed auction leagues with FAAB. Same format as the Auction Championship (23 players per team, $260 with 7 man reserves) but at lower price points. We will offer these at $150, $250 and $500 price points with $450 from each league going to the overall prize pool. We are projecting 15 leagues this year and will pay the Top 3 in each league and the Top 8 overall.

Here's the Overall Prize Pool:

NFBC Online Auction Championship:
1st - $3,000
2nd - $1,250
3rd - $800
4th - $500
5th - $400
6th - $350
7th - $250
8th $200

Here's the league prizes:
$150 League:
1st - $900
2nd - $300
3rd - $150

$250 League:
1st - $1,600
2nd - $700
3rd - $250

$500 League:
1st - $3,500
2nd - $1,500
3rd - $550

We will still offer private $125, $250 and $500 Draft Champions Online Auctions with prizes similar to last year. But all of our FAAB Online Auction Leagues will now be part of this National Championship. Here are the league prizes again for the Draft Champions Online Auctions:

$125 DC Auction League (27 reserve rounds):
1st - $1,000
2nd - $375
3rd - $125

$250 DC Auction League:
1st - $2,000
2nd - $750
3rd - $250

$500 DC Auction League:
1st - $4,000
2nd $1,500
3rd - $500

We believe there is a market for online auction leagues and we want to be the leader in this area. We've invested heavily in the software and we'd love to use it to grow another national championship with guaranteed prizes. I think together we can grow this contest and grow this area of the industry.

I'll post the contest link and the auction dates/times soon after we launch the new site early next week. Thanks all and enjoy.

Ok, this post has just been lying here all day. What do we make of it?

Here's my take....Remember when we were new to the NFBC? All of us (except maybe Mark  ) were a little queasy about shelling out so much dough to play fantasy baseball. Yet, here we are 10-15 years later buying DC's like we were buying a tootsie roll pop!
And for most of those years, we begged Greg to start an auction room.
Heck, the NFBC even had to take down the names of auctioners who played on another site, then played the rest of the game under the NFBC brand.

If I were new to the NFBC, I would eat this up. Especially if loving auctions.
I'm betting it will find its niche and be a nice addition to the NFBC contests.

I couldn't agree more Dough. I think this will definitely find it's niche. I'll be playing in it for sure. We've come a long way since Andy was hosting these auctions on another site. The draft room is great now and the auctions run very smoothly. It's also good prep for the live auctions and I can see those growing in the future as well. Well done Greg, Tom, and Darik!

Yes. There are private DC Online Auction leagues.

We had twice as many FAAB online auction leagues as DC online auction leagues last year, so this made sense to do a national contest under this format. We’ll find out if demand is there or not, but we think it will be.

Interesting! My auction experience is only a couple live, so is there a way to check out the draft software to see if we'd be comfortable using it? Probably not a deal-breaker, just wondering

There is no mock site but it's very user-friendly. We'll also have the Greg-Tom-Darik Auction league in early March so you can try to get into that if you want to get a look before the auctions really pick up. That has a $50 entry and info will be posted here on the boards about it when we lock in the day and time.
