KC Cha Is The 7th Inductee To The NFBC Hall of Fame

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Nov 21, 2019 10:23 am

We are proud to announce today that KC Cha of Manhattan Beach, California will be the seventh inductee to the NFBC Hall of Fame in March. KC has competed in the NFBC since 2011 and has been among the most successful owners in our contests since then. In fact, he is now second in NFBC history with 8 Main Event league titles and last year he put together one of the most accomplished seasons ever.

In the last 7 seasons, KC Cha has won 35 NFBC league titles. Let's say that again: 35 NFBC League Titles!!

Last year alone, KC Cha won 14 NFBC 15-team league titles, which is an insanely good number. Included in that number was the Platinum League title, which was worth $120,000. He entered three Main Event leagues in 2019 and won ALL THREE MAIN EVENT LEAGUE TITLES. He finished 7th, 25th and 98th overall in the Main Event last year. He also won 7 NFBC $150 Draft Champions league titles last year and 3 NFBC $400 Draft Champions league titles!! All 10 of those Draft Champions title teams finished in the Top 100 of the overall standings in a competition that featured 3,450 teams. Think about that for a second!! He had 10 percent of the Top 100 teams in the Draft Champions National Championship as those teams finished 21st, 29th, 37th, 49th, 53rd, 62nd, 71st, 76th, 86th and 93rd overall. Well done, sir, well done.

His Main Event accomplishments are worthy of the Hall of Fame on their own. Last year he joined NFBC Hall of Famer Mark Srebro with 8 Main Event league titles, as only NFBC Hall of Famer Steve Jupinka currently has more Main Event league titles (9). While Steve and Mark have been Charter Members of the NFBC since 2004, KC has done it in fewer attempts as he didn't join the NFBC until 2011. What he's done since joining the NFBC Main Event is insane. Take a look:

* He's joined 22 Main Event leagues since 2011 and he's finished:
1st - 8 times
2nd - 3 times
3rd - 5 times
That's 16 money finishes in 22 attempts, cashing 72.7% of the time and winning 36.4% of the time.

As if that isn't impressive enough, KC has had 19 of his 22 Main Event teams finish in the Top 100 overall. Only three times in 22 attempts has he had teams that finished outside of the Top 100 (132nd, 256th and 302nd). In 2016, he won two of his Main Event league titles and finished 5th, 6th and 8th overall (yes, he finished second in one of those leagues). He has finished in the Top 10 five different times:

4th (2013)
5th (2016)
6th (2016)
7th (2019)
8th (2016)

He's also finished 15th, 21st, 25th, 28th, 36th, 43rd, 43rd, 62nd, 70th, 79th, 89th, 94th, 97th and 98th overall in the NFBC Main Event.

Impressive enough? Yes. But there's more.

KC is currently 4th on our Career Money Winnings list with $487,248. He won the NFBC Platinum League title last year, but he also won the Diamond League title in 2018. He's also finished second in the Diamond League in 2015, second in the Ultimate League in 2015 and 2018, second in the Super league in 2013, third in the Diamond league in 2016, third in the Ultimate league in 2016 and fourth in the Platinum league in 2016.

He's also won 24 NFBC Draft Champions league titles, including the 10 he won last year. He's finished as high as 3rd overall in the DC format (2015) and has 15 Top 100 finishes in the last two years.

Like some of our other NFBC Hall of Famers, KC's start in the NFBC wasn't a winning one right away. He joined the NFBC in 2011 and finished 4th in his first Main Event league and 12th in the Ultimate League. He joined five NFBC leagues in 2012 -- two Super leagues, two Main Event leagues and an NFBC XII league -- and didn't cash in any of them. No titles and no prize checks in two seasons.

But since then he's figured it out. He won his first Main Event league title in 2013, finishing 4th overall, while finishing second in a 15-team Super League. He joined four leagues that year, adding a third place finish in his other Main Event league.

In 2015 he won two Draft Champions league titles and finished 3rd overall. He also finished 2nd in the Diamond and the Ultimate league, but finished 4th and 9th in his only Main Event leagues. He's won a Main Event league title every year since then, winning in 2016 (2 titles), 2017, 2018 and 2019 (3 titles). He won 14 total league titles in 2019, 8 league titles in 2018, 5 league titles in 2017 and 4 league titles in 2016.

That's Hall of Fame worthy....and then some!! :D

KC now becomes the 7th NFBC player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. He joins:

NFBC Hall of Famers
2010 - Steve Jupinka, Shawn Childs
2012- Lindy Hinkelman
2015 - David DiDonato
2017 - Dave Potts
2019 - Mark Srebro
2020 - KC Cha

KC Cha will be drafting live at Park MGM in Las Vegas on the weekend of March 19-22 and we'll honor him there. As everyone knows, KC is an accomplished poker player as well and sometimes he comes straight from the Las Vegas poker table to the draft table, so we'll do everything we can to get him to the Grand Ballroom at Park MGM on Saturday, March 21st before the 11 am start of the Main Event. His speech may be short, but he will feel the love in that room from those who one day hope to achieve just a portion of what KC's achieved in the NFBC. This should be a fun, fun time on our Stage of Champions with past Hall of Famers and overall champions there to honor him.

We have been stingy in placing our champions in the NFBC Hall of Fame because it's the ultimate honor in a very tough format. That explains why we've inducted only seven players in 16 years. It's a high bar to receive this honor.

But we look for people who dominate over time and dominate in multiple formats. Our previous Hall of Famers have done just that and KC certainly has done that over 9 years in the NFBC and then some. It's an impressive resume, but one that I know isn't complete. While KC was very surprised to hear the news of his addition to the NFBC Hall of Fame, he says he isn't done yet. He still hasn't earned an overall national championship yet and I know he wants to win a Main Event overall title plus more league titles. He's got plenty of game left in him!!

CONGRATS to KC Cha from all of us here at the NFBC. We reached out to past NFBC Hall of Famers for input on this nomination and once we got that and the complete resume it was an easy call for me, Tom and Darik to make. Congrats on the honor KC and we look forward to celebrating this honor in Las Vegas. Enjoy.

It's easy now to see every owner's resume thanks to our Historical Teams link under My Teams. In looking at KC's resume, here's his highlights:

KC was overdue, at or near top of ME rankings for the last few years. Good pick and good luck getting a speech out of him. :D

In 2013, JD and KC were the team owners that I watched closely and feared the most. KC is a silent assassin at the draft table and one helluva player. This honor is well deserved.

Congratulations, KC!

I've only been around since 2017 but KC is the guy I fear the most when I sign up for a league.

Congrats KC, well deserved!

Congrats KC! Amazing accomplishments. I had the "pleasure" of drafting against him in LV last year. A glance at his phone (nothing else in front of him), a glance at the board, and then the nonchalant selection of great pick after great pick. I have never seen a DC win rate this high. Incredible. Faab.....usually a step ahead of the field there too. Great selection!

Congrats KC! One of the most feared players out there. Phenomenally consistent in all events every year. I was in too many leagues with him last year. Justly deserved enshrinement.

Congrats, KC! Well-earned and well-deserved. You had the MTM Seal of Approval months ago. ;) Looking forward to your enshrining out in Vegas.

Yeah KC's been sticking it to us since 2013. Guy plays like he has a 40man roster and $2000 budget, but can probably beat us all with 23guys and $500!
Congrats KC.
