Congratulations to Terry Haney, whose Fat Tub of Goo team in Chicago League 1 led all NFBC participants last week with 3,338.5 points.
Big weeks from Nick Swisher (.500-2-3), Jose Lopez (.500-2-5) and Rocco Baldelli (.421-2-4) led the way offensively. John Maine won a pair of games and combined with Jake Peavy and Jamie Moyer for 39 strikeouts. Joe Borowski picked up a pair of saves to round out the pitching leaders.
For finishing first last week, Haney wins a Nomar Garciaparra autographed Dodgers "Sweet Spot Baseball Cut" with 8x10 photo courtesy of Upper Deck Authenticated. Congratulations again to Terry and good luck to everyone in the NFBC this week.

Jamie Moyer - almost unbelievable. Will he pitch until he's 50?

Terry had the 7th pick and I had the 8th. I couldn't believe Arod and Howard were still on the board. He took about the whole time to decide. I thought I was lucky cause I would get the guy he didn't take. He took Arod. I got Howard and the rest is history. he continued to make my life difficult all afternoon, taking guys I wanted.

Terry Haney had one of those days. One of those days when everything on his fantasy team just came together. And while he was enjoying that, he proceeded to have one of those weeks when no one in the NFBC had a better team than his.
Thanks in large part to a standout day last Monday, Haney’s Fat Tub of Good team in Chicago League 1 led all NFBC participants last week with 3,338.5 points.
Big weeks from Jimmy Rollins (.344-3-6-4), Nick Swisher (.500-2-3), Jose Lopez (.500-2-5) and Rocco Baldelli (.421-2-4) led the way offensively. John Maine won a pair of games and combined with Jake Peavy and Jamie Moyer for 39 strikeouts. Joe Borowski picked up a pair of saves to round out the pitching leaders.
The good fortune began on Monday when Haney’s offense put together a mammoth day of production.
“That was the best batting day that I’ve had in my four years in the NFBC,” Haney said. “In 56 at-bats, my team batted .500 and had 20 runs, 20 RBIs, nine home runs and two stolen bases. The rest of the week was average at best, with the best day being a .268 average.
“It was a rare week with my pitching in that I didn’t have anybody totally implode and everybody pitched pretty well. Peavy, (James) Shields, Moyer, Maine and (Josh) Beckett all had outstanding starts. (Takashi) Saito and Borowski pitched well also.”
That team balance was also a key part of Haney’s Draft Day preparation. He targeted offense in the first three rounds and then went with a 50-50 split between offense and pitching the rest of the way.
“I am going to be weak in Stolen Bases and like probably all teams would like an upgrade at a few positions,” said Haney, a married father of four who splits his residence between Johnston, Iowa and San Diego.
“The first half of the draft didn't go like I expected, and I ended up with several players I didn't plan on. I choked on my 10th-round pick, I planned to take a catcher but several outfielders had been taken since my ninth round pick and as time was running down I called out (Pat) Burrell. I was immediately sorry as he wasn't even the best outfielder available.
“But starting with Round 13 I pretty much ended up with players that I had thought I might draft if they were available at that spot. My first seven picks (Alex Rodriguez, Rollins, Victor Martinez, Peavy, Baldelli, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and Saito) are producing well and Beckett, Maine and Shields look to be good picks – at least so far.”
For finishing first last week, Haney wins a Nomar Garciaparra autographed Dodgers "Sweet Spot Baseball Cut" with 8x10 photo courtesy of Upper Deck Authenticated.

A-Rod & Rollins, my dream draft. If those two don't slow down, Terry might keep his early lead all year.

Thanks guys, I got to admit it's been a fun season so far. But KJ don't worry I don't project a 'lead all year', as Tom was kind not to mention my many weaker picks. Contrary to what Vander says above the two guys to my left and to my right, at the draft table, kept drafting 'my guys', I was just left with the leftovers.
Kelly, Chicago is a great city and the NFBC put on a good event and I'll plan to return there in future years, but I'll see you next year in Vegas. Jim, My next trip to San Diego is in the planning stages, I'll be in touch and we'll get together. Kevin, any chance you'll be at the shareholder's meeting this weekend? If so let me know, perhaps we can set you up with that introduction we discussed.
And last but not least, a bump to this thread, gotta love a thread that starts off with 'Terry Haney Wins ...'
