tomorrow night....1 football dude(BillyWaz), Greg, Tom and Darik(never won GTD) and 11 NFBC'ers battle in out in the annual GTD NFBC Auction.

Tom will tell us he is going to draft everyone good with a budget somehow under $260. Greg will acquire a team full of Brewers and Darik will spend 20 bucks on a dude that is having upcoming Tommy John surgery.

Bring it on gents! Let's do this!

Interesting thought experiment: could a team constructed from “the field” after the season ends beat this team? Meaning if you lose Acuna for the season in April you get no more stats to your total.

My plan going in was to build around Yelich, Soto and Hiura offensively for around $115 and then get two top SPs for $50-$55. I overpaid a bit for Yelich but only $2 more than I wanted so I pulled the trigger. I could've bid $40 for Soto which is what I had set aside but after losing $2 on Yelich I decided to pass since Harper was my Plan B, he was still on the board and I guessed he would go much cheaper which he did. Then I landed Hirua for the $25 I was prepared to pay and the offensive foundation was in place.

After that I hit on pretty much every guy I wanted although I was hoping to get Kieboom and Braun at the very end for my remaining $6. I didn't expect a $4 bid on Kieboom and when that happened I went $5 knowing I'd lose out on Braun for $1 because Greg was going to take him which he did. That sucked but I feel like Myers can get similar value to Braun for the same price so I'm not too upset about it.

Giolito was my top SP choice and I was prepared to pay $30 so I saved $5 on him. I had gotten Nola previously so for $49 I got two top SPs which was the plan. Montas and Sonny Gray were my SP3 targets for $13-$15. Montas came up first and I pulled the trigger on him for $15 rather than wait to see what would happen with Gray (he later went for $13). With closers a cluster right now I wasn't going to spend much but wanted to get three who have Save potential. I did that for a combined $20 so I'm real happy with that. We'll see how my other SPs work out but I'm a big Chirinos guy so I'm very happy to get him for $1.

Overall, I put together the type of team I wanted. Now we'll find out if it's good enough to compete and win the league.

Great auction last night. Lotta fun. Looking forward to the season. :)

Since I can't draft Acuna from my typical Draft Champion position of 11, I decided I would bite the bullet and pay up unless bidding went really nuts. I haven't owned deGrom in two years, so I opened the wallet for him, too. I probably should have passed on Meadows and used that money on a cheaper five tool OF and spread around the savings a bit. Lots of speed and there's plenty of cheap power available in FAAB these days. I feel pretty good about the staff and loved getting Yates for 16, since Hader and Chapman went for 22 and 19, respectively. Chief regret was forgetting to run Tom up to 30 bucks on Hiura.

Garver 9
JCastro 1
Mancini 18
Dubon 2
Adames 1
Kingery 13
Voit 5
Berti 2
GPolanco 2
Acuna 50
Meadows 32
Kingery 13
Gurriel 12
Senzel 4

deGrom 39
SGray 13
Lamet 11
Urias 10
Houser 2
DeSclafani 2
Yates 16
Gallegos 6
Magill 2

I fully expect Hirua to have a $35-$40 price next season. He's that good and his ceiling is sky high. I'll take the discount for this year.

I will just say that from a customer's standpoint, I had a GREAT TIME last night. Smooth auction, good auction owners who nominated players fast and pushed players up to where the bidding got intense quickly. I know I'm the proprietor, but now I see why so many online auction leagues are filling up right now. The software KICKS ASS. :D

When you can get done with a 15-team online auction plus the 7-round reserve round in 4 hours and 10 minutes you are doing something right. These used to be 6 hours and sometimes without the reserve round. I mean this was fun, quick and easy. And we had two 5-minute breaks.

I loved it and thanks to everyone who participated. You all stole my players, but I enjoyed it anyway.

Okay, I've been in four drafts already this year and I've picked 8th or 9th each time. I have the Tout Wars Mixed Draft on Tuesday and I have the 8th pick in that one. So even though I really wanted to start my team with Lindor and/or Turner, I couldn't do it. Like Jim, I chose to move up a little higher in the draft and targeted Mookie Betts. I know he's switching leagues, but I think as he heads into his free agent year and with an incredibly good team that he will return value on his slightly deflated cost. So I went that way and finished with this lineup:

C- Wilson Ramos $7
C - Robinson Chirinos $2
1B - Jose Abreu $19
2B - Cesar Hernandez $2
SS - Gleyber Torres $22
3B - Rafael Devers $30
MI - Kolton Wong $6
CI - Yoan Moncada $22
UT - Trent Grisham $1
OF - Mookie Betts $42
OF - Andrew Benintendi $15
OF - Austin Hays $1
OF - Joc Pederson $4
OF - Ryan Braun $1

P - Jose Berrios $23
P - Zach Greinke $21
P - Eduardo Rodriguez $11
P - Andrew Heaney $7
P - Joey Lucchesi $3
P - Ross Stripling $1
P - Cole Hamels $2
P - Kenley Jansen
P - Alex Colome

Reserves - Austin Riley, David Fletcher, Justus Sheffield, J.A. Happ, Miles Mikolas, Taijuan Walker, Casey Mize.

Pitching prices were slightly lower than expected, but it was still tough to complete a full staff. I need Stripling to get traded (as well as Pederson) and I need to find another SP or two. I need a little more speed and power, too, but who doesn't leave a 15-team draft with needs? All in all, good fun and after my 3rd place finish last year I just need to move up two more spots!! Good luck all.

P. W. DAVIS. $1

This has got to be the cheapest bunch of Outfielders that I have ever come out of an auction with. I don't think Altuve will fall off very much not knowing which pitch is coming and was an incredible bargain. I am not sure how I got Contreras for only $9 and I think Correa could blow up this year and be an incredible Value.

I thought I saved a few bucks on Verlander and Scherzer, and if Carrasco and Severino aren't terribly hurt I have a good starting pitcher base. I thought spending $2 for both Rockies closing options wasn't the worst idea.

The opportunity is definitely there. He was beyond pathetic last season but I like the upside. I was shocked someone bid $4 since it was at the end and nobody had much money left. I thought for sure I was getting him for $3 but I did want him. Hope it works out.

My entire middle infield cost me five bucks, so Kieboom would have been splurging for me last night.

I dialed it back at 1B and 3B when the two guys I wanted (Santana and Escobar) went for more than I wanted to pay. Christian Walker was my Plan B at 1B so I was very happy to get him for $6. We'll see how McMahon does for me at 3B. Never hurts to have a cheap Rockies hitter who will be playing every day.
