You can tell an owner "well he always injured you should not have drafted him" you cannot say "well you should have known that DeGrom you paid $40 for is now gonna throw the same innings and get the same wins as........Rich Hill lmao".
i only drafted 3 leagues this offseason, my lowest number by far. i have rich hill on all 3 teams. degrom on zero ;)
Rich Hill (elbow) said Friday that he expects to be ready whenever the 2020 season begins.
Rich Hill? What’s he, like 45? I could hit him.

Devil’s advocate here...

When MLB decides on the number of games in the 2020 season and NFBC bases the Minimum Innings Pitched threshold for their games, can we be confident that number is set in stone?

For example the numbers might be 82 game season and 500 IP.

If there’s a second wave of COVID, and MLB ends the season after roughly 60 games (some teams playing >60 while others perhaps 60 or fewer) does the minimum IP threshold get pro-rated again?

Drilling down deeper with a different example, let’s say MLB does play the full 82 game season but due to expanded rosters (we hear proposals like 30 + 20 man taxi squad) the Managers of the majority of MLB teams lean toward the Rays model with an Opener followed by a Primary pitcher for 3-4 innings.

Sure, it’s likely the workhorse Aces will pile up the innings but let’s say for arguments sake a LOT of managers make decisions that results in the majority of fantasy teams falling short of the pro rated 500 IP minimum.

Will we see one or two teams per league with full Roto points in the ratio categories while 9+ teams by rule have 1 Roto point? I believe that’s how it _should_ be but something tells me if there’s a majority of fantasy teams ending the season without reaching the minimum, we will see the message board flooded with comments from team owners who feel it isn’t fair and asking for ex post facto rule changes.

I hope none of that happens but while we have the time to discuss it, the issue bears some consideration.

Yes, we'll announce a percentage of games played that makes the NFBC official. 50% seems logical and everyone hopes the full "new" season can be played.

We will also have to announce a percentage of minimum innings pitched needed as well. That will be lower than the percentage above because nobody can plan exactly that number during the season. But yes, all will have to be covered legally to spell out the new parameters when the season starts.

Here's a good opinion piece by USA Today's Bob Nightengale. This is a critical week to 10 days in order to get a deal done. Let's hope it happens.

NBA definitely looking to return and finish its season:

Hopefully no news is good news and they are working behind closed doors to get a deal done, sick of the constant leaks and negotiations through the media.

We finally look to have some movement, let’s see what owners say.

This is the week that is going to decide whether we have a baseball season in 2020 or not. Will the owners just flatly reject the Players Association's latest proposal or will we have honest back-and-forth negotiations for the next 5 days?

Here's the latest proposal from MLBPA:

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/292 ... oposal-mlb

I like the extended regular season through October and 114 games. I understand there is a risk of a second wave, but who said the second wave is specifically hitting the month of November? If we can keep the players and their families safe for four months then fewer teams can be kept safe for another month, I'd think.

And would there really have to be ZERO fans for all 114 games and the playoffs? I'm seeing restaurants around here with 25-50% capacity still reaching those goals and you'd think SOME fans could attend games. Assigned seating with enough spacing could certainly allow SOME fans at games, you'd think.

Anyway, I know the owners want fewer games, but if the players are willing to take the health risk then this is a proposal that deserves an honest counter-proposal. Let's see what comes back from the owners.

MLB CAN'T -- it just CAN'T -- postpone the season over monetary issues. Safety issues, yes. Monetary issues, NO. Figure it out. Let's figure this out.

Hold on everyone. We'll know more this week, but hopefully we can have a robust regular season yet and one that will bring some joy during these dark, dark times. Fingers crossed here.

Unfortunately, MLB owners are greedy pigs, with a rubber stamp commissioner. If they REALLY cared about the fans , they wouldn't have dragged their feet like they did, and then retract their initial proposal.
The players are willing to play, and are chomping at the bit to do so. Hope your prayers are answered, but honestly, I have little faith in the billionaire owners.
No, there doesn't have to be, and shouldn't be zero fans, but reason and common sense plays no role it seems.
114 games would be awesome, but it shouldn't take another week of negotiations to accept the MLBPA's proposal, or even slightly tweak it. I miss the doubleheaders of my youth. I'm with Ernie Banks on that.

Here's why I think a deal will be figured out: If they blow this season up over financial reasons there is no way in hell that they will agree to a deal next season, when coronavirus will still be around and stadiums won't be full with fans. And then the CBA ends after the 2021 season, so this could lead to a player's strike in 2022.

Are the owners really willing to blow up the entire sport by ending the 2020 season? Because if there is no baseball in 2020 and it's because they couldn't reach a financial deal, then I don't see how they reach a financial deal before 2021. And then I don't see ANY WAY that the CBA is negotiated before 2022. We are looking at the future of baseball with this upcoming agreement.

It's going to be a VERY IMPORTANT next 7-10 days folks. Keep your fingers crossed that smart decisions are made.

What if...

About 15% of players including many stars, decide not to play this year.

Is it fair to have the DCs (and the other drafts) play given that fact?

And “what if” the MLBPA rejects the final offer from the league and MLB decides to play a on their terms a season with minor leaguers?

We can “what if” all day but it’s wasted time and thought until we see what happens.

If there's any wonder why the MLB Players Association doesn't trust the owners all you have to do is look at the owners' potential counter-offer that was leaked yesterday. To save money, they want to play a 40-50 game season with expanded playoffs. To that I reply: NOOOOOOOOO.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/292 ... 020-season

Why would any MLB player risk his health for a 40-50 game season? It makes no sense. The owners say they are losing money with every game played without fans, but it seems like the value of every franchise, every TV contract, and the sport in general falls without a robust season. And if the season is cancelled completely with no guarantee that a deal will be made before the 2021 season, then all bets are off on the future of the sport.

As to everyone asking me what constitutes a "real" NFBC season, I say let's wait a few more days to see what agreement is finally made if one is made at all. This is frustrating for everyone, but all we can do is hope that the two sides come to an intelligent middle point and we get an 80-110 game regular season. It's less than 50-50 at this point that will happen, but let's wait it out. We've waited 2+ months already, so let's wait another 5-7 days because something has to be decided in the next week if any season is still going to take place.

I'm as frustrated by this as any of you. The season could possibly be cancelled over money, not over the coronavirus. Yes, this virus led us to this point, but c'mon, during this time in America it's time for baseball owners and players to come together to save this season and bring some goodwill to the country. We can't let America's Pastime die this way. Save the season, create a robust regular season and protect the players and everyone involved in live games when they are played. We can do this baseball, we really can.

I got a note saying I should re-post my last one from my neck of the woods to here.
The last paragraph is more than enough :D

'The owners are putting themselves in front of the game of baseball.
The rich history of the game, secondary.
Owners first. The game second.
When that happens, NOBODY wins.
OWNERS- 30 INTEGRITY- 0
Usually when there is a conflict between owners and players, baseball fans take sides.
Not now.
The players seem to be genuine.
The owners, coming off like Mr Potter in "Its A Wonderful Life".
And without baseball, we are George Bailey.
We feel like throwing ourselves off a bridge.
To solve the problem, we need Clarence.
An Angel of baseball mercy.
So far, nobody has seen him.'

Given the twin tragedies that this country is facing now, if baseball isn't played this year due to money it will crush the game for the rest of my lifetime. The owners are all billionaires who have made millions from this game. Their franchises are all worth $1+ billion. I hope they realize how much less they'll be worth if substantial numbers of fans walk away in disgust. It will surely exceed the damage we saw after '94.

I actually thought I posted something last night exactly what the last 3 posts have said. A 40-60 game season is worthless to me, as would be an expanded playoff scenario. Never had any faith in Manfred, and amazing how greedy owners and a weak rubber stamp commissioner can destroy the game of baseball in such a short period of time.
On the heels of what I consider to be the worst cheating scandal in baseball history, with practically zero accountability, and now dragging their feet and pulling this crap, will forever taint the game. This will lose me and millions of other fans (not they MLB cares), and I'll be spending my valuable time with friends and family.
Thank goodness for 2019, and I thank NFBC, for allowing me the joy and success I've had competing against the best fantasy players in the country.

Well said Dan. (And by the way, this ranks as one of my Top 5 favorite movies of all-time; I still cry when they sing to George in the house!!)

If I recall, the cratchety Mr. Potter wasn't able to take his millions with him to whatever after-life he landed in and he just died a bitter old man. George Bailey, on the other hand, lived a wonderful, happy life. I trust someone will try to convince the owners that 100% of nothing is still nothing, but you never know. Without a leading voice in the room -- and Manfred isn't that voice -- we could be headed to baseball hell.

Maybe there is a Clarence out there. I have no idea who that could be, but we need that Angel of baseball mercy to appear soon. Very soon.

I'm still keeping the faith. Ending the season on a financial disagreement could lead to no baseball in 2021 and even 2022. It can't happen.

Greg, You know I love you guys, Tom and Darik, and just how much I've enjoyed NFBC. I even still play CDM, where I began playing fantasy baseball. But as I've said, I have absolutely no faith in Manfred to lead these selfish and joyless owners to be doing anything meaningful. I'm still in the "Super" league which I paid for last year, and have already drafted a total of 15 teams, including draft champions (1) and best ball (3).
Just pisses me off that we're resorting to prayer to watch baseball for 1/2 a season in empty ballparks.

MLB has rejected the union’s 114-game regular season proposal. They plan no counter. They are sititng on essentially implementing a 48-54-game season for full prorated salaries or 82-ish at less than prorated, sources tell The Post

https://twitter.com/Joelsherman1/status ... 5269960710

Losing hope that they meet in the middle at 80 games with this BS from the owners.

Sad, isn't it?
The owners have time on their side. And their using it to their advantage. Every day that goes by brings them closer to what THEY want.
A very shortened regular season.
Not offering a counter proposal right away kills yet more time.
It's looking like a 48 game regular season, an all-playoff season. or no season at all.
Fantasy players screwed.
