Game 163 in 2020

Of course there won’t be a game 163 for any team this season even under the best case scenario...

...BUT with such a short season it wouldn’t be hard to imagine several teams tied at the end of 60 games which would require game 61, and perhaps even game(s) 62+

My question goes to those who hate the Game 163:

Are you more or less likely to want to count the extra games should they be necessary in 2020?

My stance is to always count whatever stats MLB counts during the regular season. So I want game 163/61 to count.

What scares me this year is how MLB will keep stats on the Extra Innings free runner on 2nd base.

Does he get credit for being on base? Does any pitcher lose an earned run if he scores? Are there still saves, blown saves?

:o

The perception is irrelevant. The reality is it’s part of the 162 game schedule.

You’re not understanding it, I get it.

My understanding is no earned run charged to the pitcher if the runner starting on second (last batter of the previous innning) scores.

But I'm assuming that the top of the 10th progresses and the home team gets the same opportunity in the bottom of the tenth?
That is, it's not "Sudden Death (or Sudden Victory for those PC people).

If that's the case, and the top of the tenth progresses and more runs score, are they earned?

The pitcher is not charged an earned run for the runner that scores from second base. It is counted as unearned.

He will be responsible for any earned runs that occurs afterward.

If that run scores and the pitchers team does not score, that pitcher will be charged with the loss.

If the runner scores in the top of the inning, the pitcher entering the game in the bottom of the inning has the Save opportunity (He enters with a runner on second base as well.) If that runner scores and ties the game, the Save is lost.

The runner on second (the last batter of the previous inning or pinch runner) gets credit for a Run Scored if scoring, but not for 'reaching base'.

With only 60 games, the chances of needing a tie breaker this year are significantly higher.
Are you still opposed to stats from these games counting toward regular season totals?

Nothing’s changed. No owner should get any extra, unscheduled bonus games worth of stats.

That was my reason for starting this thread but since the debate was previously referring to Game 163 I was trying to be clever.

Instead of bickering how about this:

Over/Under on max regular season games played in 2020 = 61.5

Assuming of course the season is played out fully.

TBH
I originally wanted to use the title “Game 61 with an Asterisk” but I felt that was too On The Nose.
Plus I didn’t want to risk getting another cease & desist order from Billy Crystal et al ;)

The mlb does not think about fantasy when deciding what to consider a playoff tie breaker. I dont give a fuck what they say, no extra game should count in fantasy. Fantasy needs to be an even playing field as possible. This is something we KNOW will happen at a high probability. Dont give me any shit about a team that misses out on a cancelled game and since they arent in playoff contention, it wont be played, or covid related.

NFBC needs to step up and bring the iron first. So ridiculous that we r even discussing it.

If mlb counts the game towards the season stat line it should count for NFBC too

Agreed. This year more than ever there should be NO games beyond the allotted "regular" season number of 60. It's bad enough that this season is so much more of a complete crap shoot as it is, that games beyond 60 should even be considered especially given how much even one of these games can impact standings now is ridiculous. And since all bets are off in terms of NFBC rules changes given the 60 game season, I think this should be decided on sooner rather than later in the interest of creating the most level playing field possible going in for the most already un-level of all NFBC seasons. Greg, please weigh in on this when you can. Thanks.

Game should count, its part of MLB season. There is strategy especially in a short season to plan your last FAAB around possible tiebreaker games and possible pitchers who might pitch them.

You know the rules, if MLB counts the stats toward the regular season, so does NFBC, right?

Wait until you see 3 teams tied for the division lead after 60. You might be playing 61, 62 and 63.

Will that set you off?

Don't you have something better to do, like blocking more people on Twitter? Glad you feel it's safe now for the NFBC to have baseball and live events again which you aren't attending.

Guys, I just don't understand why this is an issue again. We did a survey and the majority of owners wanted to keep this rule in place, just like it has been for 16 years before now. It's clearly stated in the rules:

"The NFBC regular season will extend from the first game of the MLB regular season through the final game of the regular season (including one or more season-ending MLB tie-breaker games if needed)."

More than ever, it's obvious that we are beholden to Major League Baseball's regular season schedule. That's why we're playing a 60-game season, right? We are at their mercy to tell us how long their regular season is and to follow it. I'm more convinced than ever that we are retaining this rule for years to come after we've agreed to follow their schedule during a shitty year like 2020. We mirror their regular season. End of story for me at least.

And yes, we could have a Game 61 (I pray we get to that point). We could have two Game 61s (we just did that a couple of years ago and the world didn't end). Be active in the final week of FAAB and plan accordingly because anything is possible this year. It's clearly in the rules how we score these games, so manage your teams accordingly.

And again, I hope we get a chance to see Games 60 and more. A lot has to go our way and MLB's way for that to happen. Let's hope it does.

Carry on and please let's move on from this subject. We count all MLB regular season games per our rules and that isn't changing because we suddenly have fewer games this year. Good luck all.

Yes. We are playing the entire regular season in the Cutline and total points wins the league prize and the overall prize. Should there be Monday play-in games or makeup games they will count as a new week of scoring in the Cutline Championship. Rules have been updated to reflect that for this particular contest. Thanks.

Our voices have been heard! There will be no play in games with the new 16 playoff teams. Ties broken mathematically.
That’s all I have to say about that 🍫
