Rotowire Sprint Online Championship Format

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Jun 25, 2020 1:48 pm

We apologize to everyone who originally competed in the 2020 Rotowire Online Championship as we know a lot of time and effort was put into those drafted teams that are now deleted. Yesterday we refunded all 2,148 teams as we just didn't feel it was fair to go forward with any FAAB leagues with only 10 FAAB periods available. We refunded all teams yesterday and that money should be back on your Player Accounts by the end of today.

We REALLY wanted to start and finish that contest as it was on a record pace and it easily would have sold out had coronavirus not hit. We also had a $125,000 grand prize and a $1,400 league prize. Damn, that would have been fun.

That being said, we do want to offer a Sprint 12-team national Rotowire Online Championship, but we are struggling with the number of leagues we can complete in such a short time frame. We have decided to lower the entry fee from $350 to $250 because of the shortened season, but while we know that is still a pretty high price for a 60-game season, it's tough to get a worthy grand prize without that price point. So $250 it is.

Now we need help with the next part. We can't afford an overlay at this point, so we're going to be conservative. Yes we had 179 completed OC leagues earlier this year, but that was over 3 months of time. We basically have 22-23 days to offer these and we're concerned. Our original thought is for 50 full leagues and 600 teams, which would allow us to pay a $25,000 grand prize. Is that too low? Too high?

League prizes will be $1,000 for 1st place and $500 for 2nd place no matter what the grand prize is. That's the same 4x, 2x of our Rotowire OC in the past.

Again, give us some direction and some feedback here and we'll get this contest set up. We'll offer 3 teams for $700 ($50 off) and 6 teams for $1350 ($150 off) as we try to sell our only other Sprint national contest other than the Main Event. Thanks for the feedback.

Here are two options:

Rotowire Sprint Online Championship
$250 Per Team, 12 Teams, 30 Rounds
Based On 600 Teams/50 Leagues
League Prizes:
1st - $1,000
2nd - $500

Overall Prizes:
[/b]1st - $25,000
2nd - $6,500
3rd - $5,000
4th - $3,000
5th - $2,500
6th - $1,500
7th - $1,000
8th - $750
9th - $500
10th - $250

If we felt demand was greater than this:

Rotowire Sprint Online Championship
$250 Per Team, 12 Teams, 30 Rounds
Based On 804 Teams/67 Leagues
League Prizes:
1st - $1,000
2nd - $500

Overall Prizes:
[/b]1st - $35,000
2nd - $9,000
3rd - $5,000
4th - $4,000
5th - $3,000
6th - $2,000
7th - $1,500
8th - $1,000
9th - $750
10th - $500

Those aren't the only options, but they are our first options. It's hard to project so many leagues in just a short time, but on the last day on the April 15th deadline we did host 20 drafts that day. Now that can't realistically be translated to this time period as that was with a $125,000 grand prize and a known overlay, so it's not the same thing. But we do have refunded money on a lot of accounts and we can shoot higher if we know demand is there.

Give us any and all feedback on the price point, prizes and more and we'll finalize this contest tomorrow. We will likely set up drafts starting around July 1st and go from there. We know a lot of people will want to draft closer to Opening Day when more information is known about all players, but hopefully we'll get enough drafts to make this contest work.

Thanks for the feedback and we'll finalize this plan tomorrow.

The original contest with a $350 entry fee and an overall prize of $125,000 was very attractive. At the moment, I don't think I'd be interested in this contest unless the overall prize was in the $75,000-$100,000 range. I don't think with the current price points and the time available to draft you'd be able to justify that prize range.

Well, the $250 for a $25K grand prize make sense to me. It actually a better ROI than the main event ($1200 for $100K).

Greg I was in one of the 750 leagues. With refund would allow me 3 teams. Just a thought any chance for a higher entry fee say $500.00 with a higher league prize and still compete in overall. That would allow people that did the $750 and 1500 compete for higher league prize and the overall and still do some of the $250.

I saw your post on writing a book. If this year plays out this year could be one that’s talked about 20 years from now. Who better than you. I mentioned that in my email yesterday could be a wild ride.

Either way I’m playing. I’ll sign up once you finalize signup.

Thanks Joe. Yeah, it's easy to add a $500 and $750 league and host those closer to Opening Day. Easy enough to double and triple those prizes, while still paying the same amount to the overall prize pool. Darik and Tom will work on that format and schedule them for those final days before Opening Day. Thanks for the idea.

Wish the overall was more but it’s gunna be hard to fill enough leagues with everything else going on. I’m not gunna argue any way you decide. I’ll be drafting
