Win $15,000 In The 2020 NFBC Post-Season Contest

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Sep 16, 2020 4:30 pm

For the second straight year, the NFBC will return with our Post-Season Contest. We are offering a $15,000 grand prize for this MLB playoffs game and basing prizes on 300 teams, with a max of 500 teams. We'll pay out the Top 15 finishers.

This will be a very interesting contest this year because Major League Baseball has expanded to 16 playoff teams and four full rounds. We will use all games from all four rounds, with one slight twist. Because the playoffs are starting so close to the end of the regular season, we are taking signups through Wednesday, Sept. 30th at Noon ET. There are four AL first round games on Tuesday and those will be a "free look" for all participants so that we can get one more day of signups into the system. All stats from those games will count and all participants will know those one-game results from four different series. Lineups will then lock before the first games on Wednesday.

Cost of entry is $150 per team and you can have multiple teams. Grand prize is $15,000 and we'll pay the Top 15 finishers.

Also, we will work with owners on payment if they know they are going to have money on their Player Accounts from the NFBC regular season. Our goal is to get winnings on your Player Accounts before the end of that week, but even if it's not there by Wednesday when you want to sign up and we know that we'll be depositing those winnings soon, we can work with each owner to secure those teams in advance. Just contact me, Tom or Darik and we'll register you for those teams and take it out of your account before week's end.

Okay, now onto the format, in case you missed it.

This is a Hold 'em Contest which rewards owners for each additional round those players are on your team. You are limited to the number of players per team you can have on your team per round, but the points double for players who advance from Round 1 to Round 2, triple if they are still on your roster for the Championship Series and quadruple for players who make it to the World Series and were on your roster right away. Picking the right players in Round 1 from the right teams is the key to winning this contest.

Here's the Contest link: https://nfc.shgn.com/rules_new/448

Owners will select 16 players for Round 1 from the pool of available players from the 16 MLB playoff teams, one player from each team. There is no draft for this contest, nor any salary cap. You pick who you want and build your roster that way. In Round 2, you can have a minimum of one player from each team and a maximum of three players from each team. In Round 3, you can have a minimum of two players from each team and a maximum of six players from each team. And in Round 4, you can have a minimum of six players from each team and a maximum of 10 players from each team.

The starting lineup/positions will consist of 10 hitters and 6 pitchers, with the same positions and position eligibility of standard NFBC leagues, except for one less catcher. All 16 players on a roster for a round are considered "active." There are no bench positions.

1 Catcher
1 First Baseman
1 Second Baseman
1 Shortstop
1 Third Baseman
4 Outfielders
1 Utility Player
6 Pitchers

This is a points-based scoring system. Players can accumulate points in the following ways:

Hitters
Single - 1 point
Double - 2 points
Triple - 3 points
Home Run - 4 points
OUT (AB - H) minus .25 point
RBI - 1 point
Run - 1 point
Walk - 1 point
Stolen Base - 1 point
HBP - 1 point

Pitchers
Win - 4 points
Save - 4 points
Earned Run - minus 1 point
Strikeout - 1 point
IP - 1 point (1/3 = .3334, 2/3 = .6667)

After Round 1, owners can replace any player on their roster that was eliminated from the playoffs with another player. However, that new addition starts at 1x their points. All remaining players get double their points in Round 2, triple their points in Round 3 and quadruple their points in Round 4. Rosters can also be updated with new players before Round 3 and Round 4, but again those new additions start at 1x.

There are limits to how many players you can have per team per round of the MLB playoffs. They are:

Round 1:
Minimum of one player from each team
Maximum of one player from each team

Round 2:
Minimum of one player from each team
Maximum of three players from each team

Round 3: League Championship Series
Maximum of 6 players from each team and minimum of 2 players from each team

Round 4: World Series
Maximum of 10 players from each team and minimum of 6 players from each team

We will refund all entries if MLB does not get through two full rounds of playoffs. If they do get into Round 3 and somehow the season concludes without a World Series winner, we will pay the team leading in points at the time the season was shut down. But again, that has to be through two full rounds of action.

Thanks all for pushing us to return this contest and let's extend the NFBC season into late October, right before we open the 2021 NFBC drafting season. Again, we are drafting and managing baseball year-round. Good luck and enjoy the NFBC Post-Season Hold 'em Contest.

We will add a 3-Pack to Registration today for $425, $25 off. Just a note, though, that you'll need to sign up for the 3-Pack initially as we won't have the $25 discount for the third team if you sign up for three teams individually. Grab the 3-Pack early if you know you'll likely do more than two teams.

Enjoy and good luck.

Just a heads up that the deadline for signing up for our NFBC Post-Season Contest is Noon ET Wednesday. Secure your teams by then and make sure you have your starting lineups for Round 1 of ONE PLAYER PER MLB TEAM set before the first pitch on Wednesday.

If you are going to win prize money from the regular season and want to use that to secure post-season teams, just contact me, Tom or Darik and we'll get you set up and then take the prize money from your account once prizes are allocated next Friday. Thanks all and good luck.

Okay, just a reminder that you can secure your NFBC Post-Season Hold 'Em teams through Wednesday at Noon ET. Yes, we know that four AL Wild Card games start tomorrow, but we are allowing everyone a "free look" of those games before closing off the contest on Wednesday. There are EIGHT playoff games on Wednesday, so that should be a ton of fun.

Remember, you are just picking one player per team for the Wild Card games. The fun begins after that, but those first 16 picks are critical.

We are almost half-full now, so good luck and enjoy.

Just a heads up that we topped 300 entries this morning for the NFBC Post-Season Hold 'Em Contest and will continue taking entries up to Noon ET tomorrow. We have a max limit of 500 teams that is posted in the rules and won't exceed that. Thanks to the great demand and look for a bump in the overall prizes from 2nd place on down. Thanks all and good luck in this fun contest.

Are payout places going to be added? Thinking about signing up but with 500 owners maybe we talking 3% payouts

Of course. I think you need to do a little better math my friend.

Payouts are 80% and because of the strong interest the overall prize pool will be increased from 2nd place on down. Good luck all.
