2021 Position Eligibility

Post by mdecav » Mon Sep 28, 2020 1:19 pm

Greg,

We'll need a decision on these guys for 2021:

Pavin Smith, ARI - 5 games at 1B & OF
Brian O'Grady, TB - 1 game at 1B & OF
Sergio Alcantara, DET - 6 games at 2B & 3B
Wilmer Difo, WAS - 4 games at 2B & SS

Paven smith played 5 at 1b and 5 at of so why only 1b eligibility instead of both?

Because you need to play at least 7 games at each position to get eligibility at both. If you play less than 7 games at any position in the majors, then we determine the one eligible position to start 2021. Our rules are pretty well defined:

b) If a player did not appear in 7 games at any position, he qualifies at the one position he played most frequently the prior season in the majors. Designated Hitter is considered a position for these purposes (pinch-hitting is not). A player who only qualifies as a DH may only be assigned to the UT position. If a player's most games played at a position is less than 7 and tied among more than one position, the NFBC commissioner will assign eligibility at one position only.

Clarification on one player: Yermin Mercedes. His only plate appearance in 2020 was pinch hitting for a DH. I assume in that scenario that makes him utility. Otherwise he’d be catcher.

Under our rules, you are correct.
