Jason Duponte Wins Post-Season Contest & $15,000

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Oct 28, 2020 8:13 am

Jason Duponte of Natick, Massachusetts held onto the slimmest of margins to win the 2020 NFBC Post-Season Hold 'Em Contest and the $15,000 grand prize. Jason finished 1 point ahead of Drew Morris for the title and just 2 points ahead of Stuart Sava. Drew won $6,000 for his runner-up finish, while Stuart won $5,000 for finishing third. It's definitely the closest finish we've ever had in a national NFBC contest. Wow, crazy.

We paid the Top 20 finishers in this contest, which had a record 399 teams in it. Jason also had teams that finished 6th and 13th overall, which is surprising because he couldn't load his rosters with his beloved Red Sox this year!! This format worked out perfectly with 16 teams in it and we'll see what Rob Manfred mandates for the post-season next year. No matter the number of teams, this contest will return in 2021 with an expanded grand prize and hopefully more than 400 teams. Thanks all and congrats to all of the winning owners.

Here's our list of NFBC Post-Season Hold 'Em Contest national champions:

2015 - Alan Greenberg, $25,000
2019 - Kevin Kulp, $20,000
2020 - Jason Duponte, $15,000

We didn't offer this contest in 2016 because we were in the midst of being sold by STATS and in 2017 and '18 we didn't quite have the software ready for this particular contest. It's great to see it back on solid footing with sold software and this one will be around for many years to come. Thanks all.

Although his Red Sox weren't in the playoffs this year, Jason Duponte did build his team around a former Red Sox, Mr. Mookie Betts. He had Betts and Tyler Glasnow as his 4x players and he had Randy Arozarena, Clayton Kershaw, Blake Snell and Walker Buehler as his 3x players. Those moves proved to be worth $15,000 in this contest where every single point was valuable. Here was Jason Duponte's winning lineup in Round 4:

C - Will Smith LAD (1x)
1B - Cody Bellinger LAD (1x)
2B - Max Muncy LAD (2X)
SS - Corey Seager LAD (2X)
3B - Justin Turner LAD (1x)
OF - Mookie Betts LAD (4X)
OF - Randy Arozarena TB (3X)
OF - Manuel Margot TB (1x)
OF - Brandon Lowe TB (1x)
UT - Joey Wendle TB (1x)
P - Clayton Kershaw LAD (3X)
P - Charlie Morton TB (2X)
P - Tyler Glasnow TB (4X)
P - Julio Urias LAD (1x)
P - Blake Snell TB (3X)
P - Walker Buehler LAD (3X)
