135 Spots Left In The Debut NFBC Solo Shot Championship

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Dec 04, 2020 2:04 pm

Two years ago, we introduced the NFBC Solo Shot as the industry's first single-entry, season-long national fantasy baseball championship. This contest was designed to allow only one team per owner and to limit the contest to 180 teams. It also included a deeper bench (11 players) thanks to a 34-round format and FAAB just once per month (first Sunday of each month), while still using the popular 15-team format.

While we were excited about the concept, we failed to launch that first year because of a lack of demand. We brought the concept to football that summer and sold out our debut NFFC Silver Bullet Championship, so we decided to re-introduce it to baseball again last year. We had 140+ signups in mid-March before the game had to be cancelled because of Covid-19. We then chose not to introduce it during the Sprint season last year.

So here we are once again and we're back to a debut season of the NFBC Solo Shot. We are determined to bring this single-entry concept to baseball and to launch the Solo Shot this year.

To do that, we are taking a more conservative approach to try and get this concept off the ground. We believe it's a great entry-level contest for new players who want to try out the 15-team format and that's why the entry fee is $1,000. We are basing prizes on only 150 teams (10 leagues) and we won't go above 180 teams. We are guaranteeing a $25,000 grand prize and paying down 10 spots while shooting for only 10 leagues. If we get to 12 full leagues, we'll cut it off at that point and even add to the overall prize pool. Our goal is to launch this product in 2021 and grow the prize pool in following years. We will offer a majority of Online Solo Shot leagues, but we'll offer one league in New York City on Saturday, March 20th and we'll offer a couple of Solo Shot leagues in Las Vegas March 25-27. We were close to selling out each of those live events last year.

We'd love to attract new players to the 15-team format with the NFBC Solo Shot -- both Online and especially at live events where joining the Main Event might be too steep of a debut for some players -- and we hope the single-entry concept grows. Let's start it out this year.

Here's the contest link, rules and registration:

We'll pay the Top 3 in each league:

1st Place - $4,500
2nd Place - $2,200
3rd Place - $1,000

We'll also pay Top 10 overall, including $25,000 to the champion. If you win your league title, there's a good chance you'll win additional overall prize money as well. And remember, deeper bench (34 players, 11 reserves) and FAAB just once per month (first Sunday of each month). Enjoy and good luck everyone.

We'll keep track of the signups in this thread. Here's the current signup list:

We still have every intention to go forward with the NFBC Solo Shot Championship and we are hoping for 10 full leagues and 150 teams. We have only 15 signups right now in this $1,000 entry fee league, but again we hope to move forward with this contest and get this single-entry national championship off the ground.

This is a 15-team, 34-round format with one entry per owner and one FAAB period per month. It's a bit of a Main Event Lite. Check out the rules and take a look at the schedule, which includes Online drafts and options in Las Vegas and New York City. Thanks all and enjoy.

Greg,
I hope this contest gains some traction and does sell out. It was close to selling out last year before everything got postponed, right? You posted that it would be a 34-round, once per month FAAB. However, in the rules under the Rosters tab is says “Maximum of 36 players at all times.” It also mentions 36 rounds on the Drafts tab in the Live Drafts section. Also, under the Free Agents tab it lists every Sunday as a FAAB Period, not just the first Sunday of each month. Sorry to be nitpicky about the verbiage in the rules, but those are two big discrepancies from what you have in your post, and are things that should get fixed on the rules page if they are incorrect.

Michael, it is 36 rounds, giving everyone 13 reserves and one FAAB per month. We'll update the FAAB text in the Rules section. Thanks for this.

Yes, we hope to make this format work this year as well and with only 10 leagues we think we can do it. If not, then either we have the wrong format or a single-entry national contest isn't needed in baseball. It certainly works well in football and we hope it works well here, too. We shall see.

Thanks and we'll see you in Las Vegas.
