FSGA Draft Tonight At 6 ET On SiriusXM Fantasy Radio

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Feb 22, 2021 9:24 am

The annual FSGA Industry Draft will be held tonight starting at 6 ET and will be broadcast live on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio. This is a 14-team, 29-round draft using 5x5 Roto scoring. Should be fun.

The BaseballHQ team led by NFBC veteran Ray Murphy and Brent Hershey are the two-time defending champions and they are drafting from the 4th spot tonight. Our NFBC team finished 2nd last year and we are back tonight drafting in the 6th spot. Darik and myself will be in the draft room.

Here's the public draft board that you can follow:

Listen in, follow along and even make snide comments here if you'd like!! It's all welcome. Enjoy.

This is our favorite team we've ever put together in this FSTA draft, in the 5 years I've participated, and it's not particularly close IMO. The first four picks were our (Darik's for sure) dream start. Realmuto in the 5th just seemed ridiculous, even though I don't like taking catchers early. That one was a no-brainer, as he was a possible back-up plan if Glasnow did not come back in the 4th.

The plan was to get a monster closer in Round 6 or 7, and with how things fell, we did in both, and were set at closer for the duration. We were hoping to get Cruz in the 8th once it started to look possible, but he went two picks before...we simply pushed our Round 9-11 targets in Muncy, Musgrove, and Gausman up a round each and were still able to get Franmil in the 12th as consolation for losing out on Nellie. Love, love, love Yaz in the 11th.

Rounded out offense with glue guys like Hosmer, Cutch, Taylor, Canha, Seager, Escobar and Reynolds. We also have ton of flexibility on offense now with Muncy and Taylor elig at 3 positions each. Not as priceless as in non-FAAB, but still works wonders here, too. Especially with only 6 bench spots.

I'm big on Marquez in road starts, Elieser everywhere, and told Greg we were leaving the draft with Sale no matter what...we can DL in this league and replace on active roster, so an absolute heist in Round 17 IMO if we get 3.5-4 months of even somewhat-close-to-vintage Sale. Keuchel and Walker aren't my faves, but they simply fell too far and very deployable if used correctly; Martin may close games for ATL still at this point.

Thoughts?

As Darik said, we liked the results of this draft. That's no guarantee that this team will be successful, but we like the hitter/pitching breakdown from this 14-team format. For complete results go here:

https://rtsports.com/siriusxm

A wise man and an NFBC Hall of Famer who will go nameless (okay, Shawn Childs!!) once had a goal of getting 75 Home Runs and 75 Stolen Bases from his first three picks. That was in the old days when there were more 20-20 players and fewer Starting Pitchers going in the first round. It wasn't necessarily our goal coming into this draft, but when we started with Trea Turner, Bo-Bichette and Luis Robert it kind of had an old-school feel. BaseballHQ projects 75 homers and 91 stolen bases from those three guys this year. All three would have to have good health to reach those milestones, but a guy can dream, right?

This is also a trading league with unlimited DL spots, so securing Chris Sale was an easy decision as we can replace him on our bench with another player for 2-3 months. We also felt German Marquez fell way too far and will use him in road-home splits. Anyway, here's the roster:

C - JT Realmuto
C - Max Stassi
1B - Eric Hosmer
2B - Max Muncy
SS - Trea Turner
3B - Kyle Seager
MI - Bo Bichette
CI - Eduardo Escobar
UT - Franmil Reyes
OF - Luis Robert
OF - Mike Yazstremski
OF - Andrew McCutchen
OF - Chris Taylor
OF - Mark Canha

P - Tyler Glasnow
P - Joe Musgrove
P - Kevin Gausman
P - German Marquez
P - Dallas Keuchel
P - Taijuan Walker
P - Elieser Hernandez
P - Josh Hader
P - James Karinchak

Reserves: Chris Sale, Bryan Reynolds, Chris Martin, Adbert Alzolay, Adam Wainwright, Kike Hernandez

FSGA claims to be the voice for more than 60 million fantasy players. How do they arrive at doing a 14 team expert draft? They can't find a 15th? Where are 14 team leagues a thing? Maybe they are. Who knows. Seems like it would be more relevant to be a 15 team league. Thanks for sharing the link!

Hah, you're not alone in that thought!! I blame my old friend Charlie Wiegert for this. He originally set it up as a 13-team league, which was even odder than a 14-team league. I told him that was crazy, so he added one more team!!! It should be a 15-team league so that people see a deeper player pool, but I'm only one voice!! Enjoy the results.
