CT Residents can’t play fantasy?

Post by Chthroop » Tue Jul 06, 2021 11:15 am

Hi, as of a few days ago i have been getting an error “your state doesn’t allow fantasy sports and you can’t buy another game” (error is from memory and not verbatim)

Strangely CT did change the law b it i thought made it even easier to have high stakes fantasy? Is this error correct? Are we in CT shut out from future games?

You definitely need to see what your legislature passes and Governor signed last week. As of July 1st, only FanDuel and Draft Kings are allowed in the state of Connecticut. All other fantasy game operators are no longer able to take new signups unless something changes in the near future.

It's an incredible money grab by the state in a way to appease the tribes in the state to allow legalized sports betting. All of this could have been done and they still could have allowed legal pay-to-play season-long games, but they chose not to include careveout language for other businesses. This is a terrible sign and one that other states could duplicate.

Unreal.

This F’ing blows. Hopefully it doesn’t spread to more states.

Question: If someone from CT already signed up and drafted a 2021 NFFC team, are they allowed to still manage/faab the team this coming year?

Just so everyone understands, CT basically sold those two licenses for $1.1 million. Good for the state's coffers, but not good for state residents. My fear is that other states will see what CT did and do the same thing: Limit the number of licensed companies and just cater to those DFS companies who also can be sportsbooks. Nobody cares or understands the season-long fantasy sports business, which created this industry and is still the lifeblood of this industry.

Yes, this isn't a law that was in place when CT residents legally signed up for the NFBC or NFFC and thus they will be allowed to manage their teams and receive prize money. Going forward, we can only hope that the state legislators hear from their constituents and provide fair licenses to those of us who have been running good season-long games for decades. It's stupid to cut out the rest of the industry just so they can appease the tribes with a limited number of sportsbook operators and DFS game operators.

Hopefully we will have a solution/license in the next few months. Any CT resident can email me with questions if they'd like at [email protected]. Sucks, but we will abide by the CT law.
