Joshua Dawalt of Noblesville, Indiana won the 2022 NFBC Best Ball Cutline Championship and the $75,000 grand prize as he outlasted 1,609 other teams for the title. Joshua had two teams at "the final table" of 20 teams and he finished 1st and 19th overall. He finished with 2,759.1 points to win this year's Cutline title going away by 202.9 points.
Bill Strickler, who passed away two weeks ago, finished second to win $25,000. Eric Albright finished third to win $15,000, Bryan Bevis finished fourth to win $10,000 and Bryce Schnellenberger finished fifth to win $7,500. We paid all 20 teams at "the final table" in the Championship Round.
Jon Stadtmueller, who won the inaugural Cutline Championship title, won the Wild Card Tier to win $2,000. We paid the Top 5 teams in the Wild Card Tier.
Joshua first joined the NFBC in 2019 and he has fallen in love with the Best Ball and Draft Champions formats. He won three BestBall12 and Best Ball Double Up league titles this year and cashed in six of those formats. He had nine Best Ball Cutline Championship teams in 2022 and he cashed in six of them, winning three Cutline league titles and finishing second in three other leagues. His overall championship team was one of those teams that won a league title.
His championship team -- DeWALT CL -- ended the regular season in 67th place overall as he had seven teams that made the Championship Round. This team was 8th overall after the First Round of the Championship Round and he had only two teams that advanced to the next Championship Round. This team moved up to 7th overall after the Second Round of the Championship Round and he got another team through that was 11th overall. Heading into the final Championship round, he had two shots at the $75,000 grand prize.
He moved into the lead during the first week of the final Championship Round by scoring 796 points and his other team was 13th overall. He fell to 2nd overall in week 2 as Bryce Schnellenberger held a 13.2 point lead over him, while his second team was 17th overall heading into the final week of the season. But his team had a huge 704 point final week to win the title going away, with his other team finishing 19th overall.
We thank everyone who competed in this "survivor" format this year and we know that the 99-day lockout affected our final numbers. We have big plans for the Best Ball format in 2023 as we strongly believe that people enjoy this format with little or no FAAB during the season. Stay tuned for what we have in store for the Best Ball Cutline Championship in 2023 and what we have in mind for the BestBall12s format. Will that stay as a private league format or is there demand for a national championship with no FAAB during the season? Stay tuned.
Anyway, congrats to all of our prize winners. Here's the final standings from the 2022 Best Ball Cutline Championship's Final Championship Round:
