2023 NFBC Season Starts Today With Open Draft Room

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Thu Oct 06, 2022 9:20 am

First of all, CONGRATS to all of our prize winners in 2022. The National Fantasy Baseball Championship is the ultimate competition in this industry, so cashing in any league is quite an accomplishment. And to all of those league winners and national champions, a BIG CONGRATS for a job well done.

We anticipate putting prize money on your Player Accounts tomorrow. We will wait through today for any stat changes and then all stats will be finalized tonight. We will then put all prize money on Player Accounts and that money will show up right on your account tomorrow. You no longer have to Claim Prizes as we are putting this prize money directly onto your account now and going forward. If you don't have a W9 on file, you will be prompted for that information before you can do anything with that prize money, but if you have a W9 on file you can access your prize money right away.

Now, if you plan on playing with us again in 2023 or in any future contests, we highly recommend that you leave some money on your account. You can then easily sign up for any contest using that money for your entry fees and you'll avoid any 2% charge on credit cards in the future. Earn money, save money and then earn money again. That sounds like a nice financial plan.

And since 2023 is going to be our 20th anniversary season of the NFBC, we aren't waiting around for the playoffs to end. We have figured out how we can launch the draft room TODAY and Registration is already open for signups. We are only offering $150 and $400 Draft Champions leagues at this point, but will have the whole list of contests available immediately after the World Series.

We'll make a formal announcement shortly, but since the Draft Champions format will be the only available format through October, we'll let you in on the secret now: The grand prize in the NFBC Draft Champions National Championship has gone from $30,000 to $40,000. We believe that we'll get almost 5,000 teams for this great draft 'n hold format and so it only made sense to increase the grand prize to $40,000. Good luck everyone and enjoy.

Here's the signup links for the NFBC 2-Hour and 4-Hour $150 Draft Champions leagues that will start 30 minutes after they fill:

https://nfc.shgn.com/signup/baseball?fo ... 410,7200,0
https://nfc.shgn.com/signup/baseball?fo ... 10,14400,0

Now, here's the details on the draft room that has just been launched:

** We are using the 2022 NFBC Draft Room with the player default list using the final DC ADPs. We did move some players around to help out, but the players are not in the order that you'll see when we launch the draft room again after the World Series. This was the fastest way to get the draft room up and running, so use the Search tool for players that you want and draft accordingly. When we launch the draft room again in November, we'll have an updated player default list and the ADPs from early drafts will default over rather quickly.

** We have over 3,000 players listed in the draft room, but we likely are missing some minor-leaguers who will be drafted this year. Draft a Placeholder, post in the Chat room who you selected and email Darik at [email protected] and we'll get the player added. Once we launch in November, we'll have all of these players in the new draft room.

** Position eligibility for each player in the draft room during October will show 2022 position eligibility; NOT 2023 POSITION ELIGIBILITY. If you have questions about what position a player qualifies at, look it up to see for yourself or feel free to email one of us. We will have every player correct once the new draft room launches in November, but for now please look up the number of games played in 2023 for yourself and realize that it might be different from what you see in the draft room. 2023: Any position in which player appeared at 20 games in 2022; OR if not reaching 20 at any position in the MLB in 2022, the position they appeared at MOST; OR if only a minor leaguer in 2022, the ONE position they played most.

** Drafts will start 30 minutes after the league fills. The pause time is now 1 to 9 am ET, giving an extra hour on the front end and on the back end. You can still draft during the pause, but we found in football that this helped fill more 2-hour leagues as East Coast and Midwest folks found it easier to manage the faster drafts this way with an earlier pause time, while West Coast participants got an extra hour before the drafts started in the morning. It worked for everyone. Again, you can still draft during the pause, so enjoy.

We will announce all of our 2022 national championship winners shortly and we'll announce the new prize structures for all of our 2023 contests shortly as well. We are VERY EXCITED about the upcoming 2023 NFBC season and plan to reminisce about the first 19 seasons of the NFBC throughout the year. Look for more interviews on our High Stakes Fantasy Network YouTube channel soon and be ready for a historic season ahead.

Enjoy the MLB playoffs, get your Cheat Sheets ready earlier this year and then be ready for the 20th anniversary season of the NFBC. It's going to be one to remember. Thanks all.

Great idea on the ADP approach. You'll have a number of completed leagues by the end of the World Series as a solid base for ADP starting in November.

Here are the hitters you'll need to determine position eligibility for:

Andrelton Simmons - played 18 games at 2B & SS
Zack Collins - played 13 games at C & DH
Ryan Kreidler - played 13 games at SS & 3B
Travis Shaw - played 3 games at 1B & DH
Luis Liberato - played 3 games at OF & DH
Vinny Capra - played 2 games at OF & DH
Brandon Dixon - played 2 games at 3B & DH
Christian Lopes - played 2 games at 2B & OF
Brian O'Keefe - played 1 game at C & DH
Donny Sands - played 1 game at C & DH
Tony Wolters - played 1 game at C, 2B, & DH
Josh Lester - played 1 game at 3B & DH

Also, there were three hitters who didn't play a position in majors this year but got at least 1 at-bat: Taylor Jones, DJ Stewart, and Mickey McDonald. Not sure how you manage those scenarios.

Just a reminder that all League and Overall standings are still viewable. You just need to change the date in the pulldown column to Week 27: Oct. 3-Oct. 5. Those standings will be there throughout this month.

You have access to everything from the 2022 season through the World Series and then all of that will be gone. If you want copies of your draft boards or draft results or FAAB results, download them or take screen shots of them now. We do NOT keep draft boards, or FAAB results from year to year. Even take screen shots of standings if you want them.

When we turn everything over to the 2023 season, these things disappear, so get them now. Hope that helps.

Here you go. If they played an equal number of games at DH as a position, then they are UT-only eligible:

Andrelton Simmons - SS
Zack Collins - UT
Ryan Kreidler - SS
Travis Shaw - UT
Luis Liberato - UT
Vinny Capra - UT
Brandon Dixon - UT
Christian Lopes - OF
Brian O'Keefe - UT
Donny Sands - UT
Tony Wolters - UT
Josh Lester - UT

From our Eligibility Rules: c) Those players who only pinch-hit in the majors in 2022 will be position eligible according to their minor-league games played status in 2022. They would qualify at the position they played the most games in the minors.

Taylor Jones: 41 games at 1B
DJ Stewart: 15 games at OF
Mickey McDonald: 54 games at OF

They will be eligible at those positions.

If you have any minor-leaguers that have similar games played at multiple positions in the minors last year, let me know and we'll quickly rule on those as well. Thanks.

It's a good question. Per our rules: "Any player who missed all of the previous season to injury or retirement will qualify at the position he last was eligible for in the majors."

That position will be Shortstop in 2023. Yes, he qualified at two positions in 2021 (SS and OF), but he shouldn't carry both positions over into 2023 for being a knucklehead. He will be listed as Shortstop only in 2023.

Greg/Tom - given we now have the DH in both leagues, is there any thought to tweaking the position eligibility rules for 2024? While it isn't a major issue for 2023, we could have a growing number of draftable DC players in a season who only qualify at utility. My suggestion would be the following... imagine a player who only played at 1B or DH for a season:

1) Played at least 20 games both at 1B and DH: qualifies at 1B (as is the current rules)
2) Played at least 20 games at DH but less than 20 games at 1B: qualifies at U (as is the current rules)
3) Played less than 20 games both at 1B and DH: qualifies at 1B (new rule). If a player played less than 20 games at any position including DH, then he qualifies at the fielding position he played most. If he didn't play at any position but only played at DH, then he would be utility-only.

To take two players for 2023 as an example under the "new" rules, Shea Langeliers remains at utility since he was 24 games at DH and 17 games at catcher, but Francisco Alvarez would qualify at C because he played only 3 games at DH but 2 at catcher.

Many of these utility players may likely qualify for a position at some point in the early part of the season, so it may be more "strategic" to have the rules as-is, but if we ever get to a point where there are > 15 UT-only players that are "draftable", then some players will purposely go undrafted because of the DH/utility constraint.

Thoughts?

Edit: fixed some wording

+1. Brilliant thought & idea. Just started my first DC & starting to see a lot of non-DH players somehow get slapped with the UT tag. Never gave it much thought but you laid out the reason why very well, though I had to read it twice myself to understand.

Question: why are so many minor league pitchers listed as FA on the ADP list. Jack Leiter and Ricky Tiedemann are two examples. I often search for where players are on the list by looking at their team. So I would put the Texas Rangers in the drop down menu to see where Leiter is but he’s not on the list of Texas Rangers’ pitchers. Just curious. Thanks.

I will ask IT to look at that and ask our stats provider if they can update. Thanks.

That position will be Shortstop in 2023. Yes, he qualified at two positions in 2021 (SS and OF), but he shouldn't carry both positions over into 2023 for being a knucklehead. He will be listed as Shortstop only in 2023.
FYI…. I still see him listed as SS/OF on the app and his profile.

Tatis will be SS/OF for 2023. The people in charge of eligibility didn't listen to me and once Gladiator teams got drafted there was no changing his eligibility to just SS. He was already an outfielder on some teams that had drafted and he couldn't be moved.

Darik says we kept Trey Mancini dual position eligible last year after he missed a year, so I guess there's justification for this. I didn't want to reward Tatis for his missed year -- it certainly was different from Mancini's -- but I guess the precedent has been set. We will follow this guideline going forward.

Sorry for the miscue. There's no turning back on Tatis now.
