Greg & Shawn Childs At LABR On Friday & Saturday

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Wed Mar 01, 2023 9:11 am

For the 30th straight year, I will be competing in USA Today's LABR Leagues. I am the last original owner from the 1994 auctions that John Hunt created and this will definitely be my final year.

Thankfully, NFBC Hall of Famer Shawn Childs will be guiding our team this year. We are both flying to West Palm Beach, Florida tomorrow where BaseballHQ.com will be hosting their Florida First Pitch Conference. The NL LABR League will be held on Friday at 7 pm ET and the AL LABR League will be held on Saturday at 7 pm ET.

Both auction leagues can be heard in its entirety on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio. We'll also post the public auction boards once they are provided.

Shawn and I won the NL title a handful of years ago and I think we finished 3rd in the NL and 4th in the AL last year. It's time to end our tenure with TWO LABR titles!!! :D Now wouldn't that be something.

Listen in and wish us luck. We'll post our teams on Saturday and Sunday morning right here. Thanks and enjoy.

The 30th annual USA Today NL LABR auction league was held last night in West Palm Beach, Florida and it was a fun, fun time. Shawn Childs and myself represented the NFBC in this league and we definitely were the talk of the crowd early on.

We spent $233 on 13 players within the first hour of the auction and then sat TWO FULL HOURS without getting another player. We finally had the most money at $27 for 10 players and actually were the team that ended up buying the last player of the auction. It was a wild 4-hour run!!!

Anyway, here's a link to the auction board:

https://www.rtsports.com/baseball/aucti ... 7886022531

Here's our team:

C - Endy Rodriguez $4
C - Luis Campusano $4
1B - Dominic Smith $4
2B - Tommy Edman $24
SS - Fernando Tatis Jr. $34
3B - Jordan Walker $16
MI - Bryson Stott $15
CI - Luke Voit $2
UT - Francisco Alvarez $1
OF - Juan Soto $43
OF - Cody Bellinger $14
OF - Ji Hwan Bae $2
OF - Juan Yepez $4
OF - Jason Heyward $2

P - Spencer Strider $30
P - Sandy Alcantara $27
P - Dustin May $13
P - Josiah Gray $2
P - Brandon Hughes $6
P - Luis Ortiz $2
P - German Marquez $2
P - Daniel Bard $8
P - Matt Barnes $1

Reserves:
Ryan Pepiot
James Outman
Gordon Graceffo
Madison Bumgarner
Jordan Lawler
Trevor Bauer

We went to a Cardinals-Nationals spring training game today and Jordan Walker went 3-for-3 with two homers (the first one left the entire park), a double and two runs scored. Just an impressive, impressive display.

Okay, thoughts?

Well guys, your American League team is better than your NL team in my opinion. Getting 2 top Catchers in Adley and Varsho is excellent. bobby Witt and Vinnie Pasquantino are young and already very good. Only to get better. A front 3 of Alex Manoah, Tristan McKenzie and Grayson Rodriguez are very good and I like the Kyle Muller gamble. Volpe may only come up at the All star break but he can get you way more than $5 worth of stats. Andrew Vaughn and Esteury Ruiz are young and improving. Great job. For me your NL team drafted too many players not likely to even make the team. But you did get 2 Ace starters so I like that. But I think we all understand that "Only" leagues are tough. I believe your AL team will be top 3 and maybe win it. Not too sure about your NL team. Good job boys. Nice representing of the NFBC.
Rogers Hornsby, Hall of Famer with the Cardinals was once asked " You love Baseball Rogers, but what do you do in the winter ? " His response......"I stare out the window and wait for spring "
