Brian Slack Wins 2023 NFBC Main Event & $200,000 Prize

Brian Slack of Los Angeles, California won the 2023 NFBC Main Event title and the record $200,000 grand prize as he topped a record field of 795 teams for this prestigious title. Brian becomes our 19th different Main Event champion since 2004, with only NFBC Hall of Famer Lindy Hinkelman winning this overall title twice.

Brian held off Brandon King to win the overall title by 106.5 points. Brian competed in one of the final NFBC Main Event Online leagues on Wednesday, March 29th at 9 pm ET and he won that league title with a whopping 136 points. Brian took the overall lead during Week 23 and held onto the lead over the last five weeks of the season to earn the coveted title.

Brian competed in four NFBC Main Event leagues this year and finished 1st, 2nd, 2nd and 5th in those leagues. He finished 1st, 86th, 126th and 169th overall. He also competed in nine NFBC $150 Draft Champions leagues and won two league titles, finishing as high as 114th overall among 4,845 teams. He also competed in the Las Vegas $2500 Auction Championship League and finished 2nd in that one, finishing 34th overall in the NFBC Auction Championship standings. His lone stumble this year was in the NFBC Diamond Auction League, where he finished 6th and out of the money.

Brian has been competing in the NFBC since 2011 and he and his co-manager Nickolaus Sackett have won a total of 9 NFBC Main Event league titles, tied with NFBC Hall of Famer KC Cha for third most overall. They have won seven Main Event league titles since 2018, having won league titles in 2014, 2016, 2018, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Pretty damn impressive guys.

Brandon King won $50,000 for his runner-up finish, while Bob Catsiroumpas capped off a fantastic season with third place overall to earn $30,000. The first person to ever sign up for the NFBC Main Event in the Fall of 2003 was Rey Diaz and he finished fourth overall to win $25,000. Rounding out the Top 8 were Bill Gaffney ($20,000), Robert Mirshak ($15,000), Clark Olson ($12,500) and Gregg Martin ($10,000). Clark Olson had two teams in the Top 14 overall as he won two more NFBC Main Event league titles this year, also giving him a total of nine league titles to join Cha and Slack.

Brian's winning total of 7,119.0 points were 89.55 percent of all available points, which ranks as the 9th highest total among our 20 overall champions. That percentage under 90 shows you just how competitive the overall race was this year with 795 teams competing for the title.

Congrats to all 53 of our Main Event league champions this year and to the Top 31 in the overall who cashed. This was our 20th anniversary season and it was our biggest and best one ever. To go from 195 teams in our inaugural season of 2004 to 795 teams in 2023 has been an impressive growth pattern and we couldn't be happier. We're also proud to crown a great champion in Brian Slack, who has been knocking on the door for the title for years and who finally came through this year. Thanks to everyone who competed in the industry's premiere event and congrats again to everyone who earned prize money in this contest.
