Robert Orr Wins 2023 NFBC Gladiator Championship & $7,500

Robert Orr of North Chesterfield, Virginia won our debut NFBC Gladiator Championship and the $7,500 grand prize. This unique contest had drafts throughout November and December last year and teams drafted their 23 starters and then let that roster ride during the year. There were no Free Agent pickups. There were no Set Lineup decisions. What you drafted is what you had for the entire year and that was that.

Robert's team stayed healthy long enough to capture the debut championship against a field of 1,500 teams. This was his only Gladiator entry as he won the title with a single entry. The 32-year-old first joined the NFBC in 2022 and he won a national championship in only his second year of playing high-stakes fantasy baseball. Go figure!!!

Robert drafted his team on December 12th and dominated his league with 138 points (92 percent of available points). He won the overall title with 13,427.5 points, or 89.5 percent of available points. This was one of the tightest national championships we had this year as Robert edged Spencer Thurmond by just 6.5 points. Spencer won $2,000 for his runner-up finish. Rounding out the Top 5 were Robert DiPietro ($1,500), Robert Cramutola ($1,400) and Donimic Rello ($1,300). The Top 25 teams overall won prize money.

Robert drafted six teams this year in the NFBC and won a Gladiator league title, a $150 Draft Champions league title, while finishing second in two NFBC $50 Draft Champions leagues. Cashing in four of six leagues is pretty good, so we'll see if Robert joins even more leagues in 2024. Great job Champ as this is a great title to have for the rest of your playing career.

Robert drafted from the second spot and having Ronald Acuna, Jr. for the whole year in this format sure paid off. He suffered injuries just like everyone else in this format -- losing SPs Shane McClanahan and Drew Rasmussen -- but he had enough in the end to win the title.
