Multiple NFBC Main Event League Champions: 2004-23

We just concluded our 20th season in the National Fantasy Baseball Championship and it was our biggest and best one ever. We finished with over 21,000 teams, including a record 795 teams in our signature event, the NFBC Main Event. We crowned 53 league champions this year and each one should be VERY PROUD of winning their league title. It's a badge of honor to win any 15-team league title in the NFBC, but it's a big badge of honor when you win a Main Event league title.

With our 20th season now complete, it's my honor to recognize all of our owners who have won two or more league titles in our Main Event. Our goal is to keep a history of accomplishments in the NFBC and to honor those players who have excelled throughout the years, so having this information is critical. We know that in recent years some owners play in more than one Main Event, but the number of titles is still a key indicator of an owner's success.

Let's give it up for all of this year's NFBC Main Event league champions, but it's also time to recognize those owners who made history in 2023. NFBC Hall of Famer Mark Srebro won another NFBC Main Event league title this year and now has 13 for his career, the most in NFBC history. He's now two league titles ahead of fellow NFBC Hall of Famer Steve Jupinka.

The tag team of Brian Slack and Nickolaus Sackett won the NFBC Main Event overall title and the record $200,000 grand prize and they also won another league title. They now have 9 NFBC Main Event league titles to join KC Cha for third most league titles in NFBC history. NFBC Charter Member Clark Olson also moved into that category of 9 NFBC Main Event league titles for his career as he added two more Main Event league titles in 2023, while finishing 7th and 14th overall in the Main Event standings.

Clark was one of only six owners who won multiple Main Event league titles this year. Danny Bronski led the way as he won THREE Main Event league titles in 2023 and he now has five league titles during his career. The others who won two Main Event league titles this year included Todd Whitestone, John Pausma, Phillip Dussault and Gregg Martin. This was John's 4th and 5th Main Event league titles for his career, while these were Todd's first two Main Event league titles. Well done guys. Phil has now won a total of NINE NFBC Main Event league titles since 2019 and he joins KC, Brian Slack and Clark Olson in that select group that is third overall in Main Event league titles. It's been one helluva 5-year run for you Phil, so congrats. Gregg Martin now has three career NFBC Main Event league titles.

Also of note, three other NFBC veterans won their fourth NFBC Main Event league titles in 2023. They included Steven Weimer, Jeff Mitseff, Eric Albright and Brent Grooms. Winning their third Main Event league titles were Kyle Brinkmann, Michael O'Brien and Douglas Roth.

Winning their second Main Event league titles were Bob Catsiroumpas, Elliott Pell, Al Williams, Robert Mirshak/Ian Kahn and Rey Diaz. Al Williams won his first NFBC Main Event league title in 2012, so he had the longest gap between league titles from this year's champions.

But best of all, we had 26 -- yes TWENTY-SIX -- first time NFBC Main Event league champions from our record 53 leagues this year. That's fantastic. I'll list all of them shortly, but congrats to all of our first-time league champions. Last year we had 16 first-time Main Event league champions, and in 2021 we also had 16 first-time Main Event league champions, so I'm loving the new success along with the old success in our signature event. Great job everyone.

We talk about a lot of owners who win multiple Main Event league titles on this thread, but let's honor those who won their first Main Event league title in 2022. A total of 26 different owners -- 49% of the 53 Main Event league champions we had this year -- won their first Main Event league title in 2023. That's a big list of first time winners and it's consistent with past seasons. We had 16 first-time league champions in 2022, 16 new winners in 2021, 15 new winners in 2020, 16 new winners in 2019, 16 new winners in 2018 and 15 first-time champions in 2017. The NFBC had a record 53 Main Event leagues in 2023 consisting of 795 teams. It was 90 more teams than we had the year before and six more leagues than we had in 2022. Amazing year everyone.

When we started in 2004, we had 13 leagues consisting of 195 teams. We then sold out the contest in 2005 with 300 teams in 20 leagues and we've sold out the Main Event every year since. Here's a list of the past NFBC Main Event League Champions, including 2023:

Every draft starts with your draft position and then you plan your strategy from there. Each year our owners prove that you can win from any draft position and this year was no different as we had at least one Main Event league champion from each of the 15 draft spots. I know a lot of people are unhappy when they get their draft spots, but those same people still find a way to win a league title!!!

This year we finished with a record 53 Main Event leagues and the league champions were spread out throughout the 15 spots. In fact, the top spot was No. 1 thanks to Ronald Acuna Jr. as it produced eight Main Event league champions. But the next best spots with five league champions each were picks 9, 10 and 15, near the end of the draft order. There were 20 league champions from the Top 5 picks, 16 from the middle five spots and 17 from the last five draft spots. That's about as even as you can get, which proves the serpentine format still works.

The only draft spots that produced only one league champion each were picks 8 and 13.

One last data point: The average winning margin in the NFBC Main Event in 2023 was 12.57 points, up 3.16 points per league from 2022 as there were far fewer close finishes this year. For the second straight year, we didn't have any leagues end in a tie and only two leagues that were decided by a half-point, compared to SIX leagues that finished that close in 2022. However, we did have nine Main Event leagues this year that were decided by two points or less and nine other league titles that were decided by four points or less. But, on the other hand, we had 20 leagues whose champions won by 10+ points and six champions that won by 20+ points.

Brandon King, who finished second overall in the Main Event, had the most league points in any Main Event league this year with 136.5. NFBC Main Event overall champion Brian Slack and Bob Catsiroumpas each won their Main Event league titles with 136 points. There were six 2023 Main Event league champions who had 130.5 or more league points. The lowest winning total for a Main Event league champion was 108.5 by Don Scott and Douglas Roth, but only three league champions finished with 110.5 or fewer points. The vast majority of 2023 NFBC Main Event league champions (29) scored between 111 and 120 points.

Twenty-three of 53 Main Event leagues (44%) were decided by 5 points or less. Eighteen leagues (34%) were decided by 4 or fewer points. But as stated above, 20 league champions (37.7%) won their leagues by 10 or more points.

The average number of winning points for our 53 Main Event league champions was 120.62, down just slightly from last year's total of 120.87. The range of league champions ranged from 136.5 to 108.5. First place teams in this range included:

108.5-110.5 points - 3 teams
111.0-120 points - 29 teams
120.5-130 points - 15 teams
130.5-138 points - 6 teams
