Steven Weimer of Potsdam, New York won the 2024 NFBC Draft Champions National Championship and the $40,000 grand prize after topping a record field of 5,010 teams. Steven had a historic season as he not only won this overall title, but he also won 11 league titles in 2024 and qualified for the debut NFBC Champions League Qualifier Championship in Las Vegas next March.

This is Steven's first NFBC national championship, but he finished second in the Main Event in 2022 and second in the Draft Champions National Championship in 2021. He's had several other Top 10 overall finishes as well, including two teams in the Top 10 of the DC National Championship last year. This year he not only won this national championship, but he won league titles in the Main Event, the Rotowire Online Championship, the Draft Champions leagues, the $500 DC Auction and the Gladiator In-Season Contest. That's a wide range of excellence, so congrats Steven.

Steven led the DC National Championship for much of the season and he won this title rather handily. He finished 2,990 points ahead of Dustin McComas, who won $8,000 for his runner-up finish. Dustin also led the CLQ Championship and will be joining Steven in Las Vegas next March for that debut Championship. Rounding out the Top 5 in the DC National Championship were Rob DiPietro ($6,000), Michael Brophy ($5,000) and James Tomony ($4,000). We paid the Top 45 overall.

Steven's winning team came from one of the earliest drafts of the season: October 24th. He had almost a perfect team as it won the league title with 146.5 points, leading 7 of the 10 categories. His 48,495.5 overall points were 96.8 percent of all available points, by far the highest ever in the 13-year history of this contest. Wow, well done Steven.

Steven proved that drafting early and finding those early bargains can be a good thing. Steven Weimer becomes our 14th different champion of the NFBC Draft Champions National Championship since we started this in 2011. No one has ever won this national championship twice, which tells you how hard this draft 'n hold format really is.

Number 15 was the favored spot for the Top 20 teams with four teams drafting there and eight of the Top 20 teams came from the last five draft spots. Last year it was heavily favored by the top teams. What a difference a year can make.

I think it makes sense to give recognition to the two winners of our two highest-priced Draft Champions leagues that we offer. These are run by Mike Massotto and they usually get done in 3 days or less. Anyway, let's give it up for Phil Dussault, who won the $5,000 league and the $40,000 first place prize, and Rick Thomas, who won the $2500 league and that $20,000 league prize. Great job guys.

Phil won his $5,000 league title with 120.5 points, edging Mike Mager by 9 points for the title. Mike won $20,000 for his runner-up finish. Robert Cramutola finished third and won $7,500.

In the $2,500 DC league, Rick Thomas won the $20,000 league prize with 112.5 points, finishing 10.5 points ahead of Clark Olson. Mark Srebro finished third, one point behind Clark and one point ahead of Dalton Del Don. Great race guys.
