Phil Dussault of Terrebonne, Quebec successfully defended his NFBC Platinum League title and won the $120,000 league prize for the second straight year. Phil also won the 2023 NFBC Platinum League during his first season in our highest high-stakes private league as he became the first ever repeat Platinum League champion. In fact, Phil is now the only two-time Platinum League champion in the 10-year history of this league.
Phil has had tremendous success in the NFBC over the last four years. He won the 2021 NFBC Main Event overall title during a historic season and then joined the NFBC Diamond League for the first time in 2022 and won that private league title. Last year he stepped up to the Platinum League and won that private league title and now defended that title this year. Pretty amazing run of success Phil, so congrats.
Phil also won the NFBC $5,000 Draft Champions league title and that $40,000 league prize, while winning a league title in the $150 DC format in the only league he joined at that price level. He also finished second in the Ultimate Auction League and second in one Main Event league.
Phil won the Platinum League title in dramatic fashion as this was a very tight race all year long. Five teams had a legitimate shot at the title during that final week, with Phil holding onto first place with 107.5 points. John Thompson moved up three spots in the final week and picked up 7.5 points during that final week to finish second at 106.5 points, just one point behind Phil. Glenn Schroter finished third with 106 points, while John Thaler finished fourth with 99 points.
I'm not sure we've ever had a closer Platinum League finish, with three teams ending the season within 1.5 points of the top spot. Thompson won $60,000 for his runner-up finish, Schroter won $24,000 for his third place finish and Thaler won $10,000 for finishing fourth.
Cost of entry for this league was $15,000.
This is the 10th year of the NFBC Platinum League and Phil is our first repeat champion and first two-time champion. We had a different Platinum League champion during each of the first nine years. I have a feeling demand to return to this league will be high this year.
This league will again be held in Las Vegas and Online in 2025 on Saturday, March 22nd at 4 pm PT/7 pm ET. This year's members have first dibs on spots through December 31st and then after that we'll open Registration to everyone else if there are any spots left. Thanks all and congrats to all of the prize money winners.
