With the difference between 1st Place and 3rd equating to not only $90,000.00, but the title and trophy...this will be a fun final few weeks to track!

Seems to be a 3 man race...but the top 5 and a few more with a strong finish can play into it.

1 Fat Tub of Goo 3,151.0 +23.5

2 Guess who? 3,130.0 +4.5

3 Inebriated and loving it 3,104.0 +8.5

4 DOUGHBOYS 2,902.0 -6.5

5 TOWNIES 2,900.5 -5.0

What a finish I anticipate.

I guess it's about time for some voodoo! :D

This is definitely one of our more wide open races for the NFBC title, that's for sure. Several teams have a good shot at the title. However, in Year 1, Artie Rastelli and Aaron Seefeldt were TIED for the overall title on the Friday before the season ends. Amazingly, they had the exact same point total with two days of the season left. Artie eventually won the debut title and the $100,000 grand prize, but with 1,950 available points that year, it was amazing to see two teams tied for first place with two days to go!!

Good luck all. This has been a tough, tough competition this year with 375 solid owners. May the best team win.

I'm fascinated with how this season is finishing re: top teams.

I love to see the gambles...especially re: using starters vs. relievers down the stretch.

Sacrifice K's and W for WHIP and ERA? ...Sacrifice WHIP and ERA for K's and W?

I've got to give Mark his due again. He set his goal, had a great game plan, and pulled off one hell of a run at being the first to claim the crown in the NFFC and NFBC. Add in the WCOFF and call it the triple crown!

Also...perennial gamers Shawn Childs and Dan Kenyon amaze me.

Lastly but not leastly :D I've got to give credit to Jules...she really made a name for herself last NFFC, and now she's in the mix atop the NFBC's overall as well! I'll be using her as inspiration to do the same.

Great Job to all! (I'm sorry I don't know Terrance Haney, Thomas "Vegas Vacation" Greenwald, or John Rundle (I remember John Randle MIN :D ), and Matt Mickle ...but congrats to youz guyz as well!)

Going to battle the last few weeks (month) without Manny, Delgado or Victorino have really put a damper on my chances.

In any event, thank Lance, and the groundwork is set for a great next year as well.

The last month has been very interesting. When we were in Vegas, I told Greg I though Terry Haney had the inside track to win. He has had great pitching all year. He was able to find steals on the waiver wire and get his batting average up to a respectable number. When I looked a month ago, I thought he was batting .271. He is protect mode on the pitching side. If he gets enough hitting, someone is going have to hot to make up ground.

In 2004, Terry finished in the top 5. His team was Chicken Dinner. He made a great run late. He will tell you he should have won that year. I don't know the moves he made the last week, but I believe he had the players on his team to win.

Terry is a Peavy guy. If you get the ace pitcher right, it really sets up your pitching staff.

As for Thomas Greenwald's team, I haven't followed him as close. He did great job on the hitting side. If he falls short, the question will be why he never addressed wins. He has 85 wins today. Three more wins gives him 35 more points. If he would have been more aggresive with the wins, he might have put himself in better position to win the title.

Guess Who...formerly known as Prince..or was that Gordon Gekko. He has been knocking at the door all year. He did great job on the waiver wire down the stretch. He also pushed his batting average up 5 points in month. I thought he was at .280 a month ago and I saw him at over .285 a couple of days ago. He is at .284 today. He has had his share of injuries on the offensive side. It is amazing he has been able to hold onto his batting points. If he is going to win, he need a hot batting stretch and he needs wins. A week ago, I thought he had great shot at winning the title. Between last Sunday and Tuesday, he got 7 wins. All he needed was 2-3 more wins the rest of the week. He didn't get one win in 7 starts. When you need wins late in the year, it is the most painful experience. I feel for him. If he had a few more dollars left, he might have a run left in wins. Everyday he doesn't have a starter pitching the clock is ticking. Mark has done a good job this year, but he has had his share of bad breaks.

John Rundle team had such a long run in first place. He looked like the favorite for sure. Two things killed him. He never was able to make up the 20 steals that Terry did and he gave away a 100 easy points in K's. He did a great job with his pitching. He had everything covered, but in early August he was pitching 4 relievers. Between the 4th reliever and a couple pitching injuries, he lost about 75 k's down the stretch. If he had 58 more K's, he would have 100 more points plus or minus the other gains and losses in pitching.

Dan Kenyon had a great run in 2005. Jimmy Rollins 32 game hitting steak and Andy Pettites great pitching down the stretch stole his shot at winning. Dan had a great run early, but I think he tailed off when Prince Fielder did. I haven't followed him as close, but I know he has been extremely hot the last couple of weeks. I think he gained about 200 points in a week. I could be wrong. I think Dan was a solid pitcher short and probably wished he had one more stick. From where he was a week and half ago, I'm sure he would be happy talking home 4th place money.

Not good news, GG...

James Shields-S-Devil Rays Sep. 18 - 8:20 pm et

Since the right-hander is up to 215 innings this season, the Rays have decided to shut down James Shields, effective immediately.

This is quite a surprise. We thought Scott Kazmir might get shut down, but he'll make two more starts and be limited to 100 pitches in both. J.P. Howell is going to start Wednesday in place of Shields, who finishes his breakthrough year 12-8 with a 3.85 ERA and a 184/36 K/BB ratio.

Me too!

I'm convinced that if I'm watching, my pitchers are going to pitch poorly. I watched Peavy get shelled at Arizona a few days back. Over the weekend I started to watch the Yankee-Red Sox game but when Jeter hit that HR off Beckett in the first I turned the channel and ended up watching Pulp Fiction. Last night I saw that Saito was brought in for a save, so I turned on the game. There were two outs and nobody on. Two batters later ... :(

And I haven't been able watch Joe Borowski all season long

Just sitting here (buzzed) wondering if the last month/week strategies include looking at your nearest competitor and adjusting your roster accordingly.

I'm speaking of the TOP teams.

You can hedge your roster with certain players to gain speed if your opponent is targeting speed, or wins/saves, etc.

Do you wait until the last second to set your team? Do you set false lineups to confuse your competitors, and then re-set them before it's locked?

Just wondering.

~Lance Lance, Are we talking leagues or overall? If its league I will pinpoint certain categories but most likely it will have nothing to do with the closest rival, just trying to squeeze out an extra point or two.

As for overall, I'm really just trying to put my best team on the field but maybe with a little slant toward my weaker categories since those will be the ones that can jet a team up the standings faster with a good week.

As for changing my roster or having a false lineup for others to look at... Hell, I've got enough problems deciding who I'm really going to start and looking for last minute updates. Also, I don't look at someone else's lineup until after the deadline.

Did you try some of that subterfuge in the Shawn Childs League, Lance? :D :D

BTW, Lance is 2nd in that league, just a half point out of 1st, good show, Lance.

And I haven't been able watch Joe Borowski all season long  I am convinced that MLB players should be sending me large amounts of $$$ to sit them. I look at the match ups, then only sit people where there are huge risks - like against the Yankees. If I play the pitcher, he gets shelled. If I sit him, he throws a monster. My non-start of Bedard in week 13 was a great example of this.
