DL Players For Week 25 - Final

We will allow these players to have a DL designation next to them this week as they were deemed out for the season this week:
Chris Duncan
Chad Tracy
Danys Baez
Chris Sampson
Neal Musser
Troy Patton
Ken Griffey Jr.
Jonathan Sanchez
Vernon Wells
There won't be a DL designation next to them, but you will be allowed to move them from your starting lineup to your reserve roster and replace them with a reserve player as long as your team meets the position eligibility requirements. Good luck all.

Got the following message when trying to bench Ken Griffey, Jr. :
"You tried to submit an invalid lineup - it was not saved.
You cannot make changes to your weekend lineup unless you are benching a player who is on the official MLB DL"
Will this be corrected before 2:00?

Will this be corrected before 2:00? Sorry for the delay as it took some manual programming to get this done, but all of the players are now available to be moved out of your starting lineup for this week's games. Good luck everyone.

I'm not big fan this rule to begin with, so that puts me in the minority to start off. But I'm wondering..with no official DL, it's pretty fine line between Vernon Wells shutting it down early to get his shoulder operated on, (an injury he played with all year), and Tim Lincecum being shut down for the season because they feel he's pitched enough innings. Both players can physically play, but neither are. One can be replaced, the other can't.

I'm not saying Lincecum should be on the list, though I'm not sure Wells should be. I'm just pointing out one of the reasons I don't care for the Friday DL switches in general.

The Friday DL rule is not my cup of tea as well.
But overall I think most participants are happy with the rule on whole. At this time of year a lot of subjectivity comes into play and that is why Greg gets paid the big bucks.
My feeling was that he did an excellant job of using time to discern more information about Sanchez yesterday and then making the right decision on him.
As far as the example of Wells and Lincecum, its really a no brainer. Had this happened in late August Wells would have been DL'ed immediately with no hope of coming back within 15 days, whereas since Lincecum isn't hurt San Francisco can always waffle ( Buccholz, Boston) about how many more innings they want him to throw.

Buccholz probably wasn't the best example. Boston has never mentioned anything about shutting him down, but did say he would be sent to the bullpen and have already started him once since then.

My point with Wells is this happened months ago and he's been playing with it. It's a team decision to shut down early and have the operation Tuesday and not a week from Tuesday. Jays could waffle and use Wells this weekend if they wanted to. I'm not questioning Greg's lists. I think they're the best you can ask for given the rule we have in place. Again I'm just pointing out one of the reasons I don't like the rule in general, not just September. But I think that discussion is for another thread in the off season.

As you know, I was on the boards late last night checking out the latest news before I sent my list to STATS before midnight. I did not see anything about Lincecum and as I look on the Giants' team web site now I see the posting about his being shut down was at 11:38 p.m. I did see it this morning on Rotoworld.com and that posting was after midnight. We do freeze our DL lists during the regular season at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and in this case I can honestly say that I did not see Lincecum's information at all last night.
That being said, I do think his case is more like James Shields' than Vernon Wells, but it is an interesting point. And probably another reason to reconsider the September rule for 2008.
