Gekko's NFBC Season_Review

Mr. Commissioner Ambrosius, Vice Commissioner Kessenich, fellow NFBC participants:

As this baseball season draws to a close, all of us in the NFBC share a great privilege: we have participated in the single best high stakes fantasy baseball event in the country.

In January of this year, I made a season-long (January - September) commitment to put in excessively long hours of “baseball research” with the hopes of producing a winning fantasy baseball team. This 26 week journey is almost over, and the end can’t come quick enough. Every night has been a battle for me. I can’t tell you how many times my body woke me up at 3-4am to check the stats! Truth be told, I believe I’ve averaged about 4-5 hours of sleep per night for the past six weeks. While it isn’t over yet, I can honestly say this season has been a success for me.

1) I’ve had the privilege of rubbing elbows and chatting with some really good NFBC participants:

Brian Oldenski; Glenn Schroter; Shawn Childs; Dan Kenyon; Matt Mickle; Michael Edelman; Jules McLean; KJ Duke; Stephen Jupinka; Kent Stermon

2) Even though I made many mistakes, I’ve confirmed to myself that I can compete on a high level with the likes of the Childs, Kenyons, etc…

I’d like to give a special thanks to Glenn Schroter & Shawn Childs. Our many conversations were thought-provoking and helped bring me up to speed on many aspects of fantasy baseball.

Lastly, thank you Greg Ambrosius and Tom Kessenich for offering us diehard fantasy baseball fans an event to showcase our skills. Throughout the season the Commissioner’s Office had difficult decisions to make, and when action was needed, the Commissioner’s Office delivered - and the NFBC participants are grateful for that. Even though there were decisions that went against my team’s favor, I recognize that the team of Ambrosius & Kessenich should be highly regarded and thanked for the job they did this year, as well as their willingness to improve NFBC gameplay from year to year. I wouldn’t trust my fantasy baseball money to anyone other than Ambrosius & Kessenich.

After the season is over, I’ll take a week or two off from all baseball activities before jumping into my 2008 prep. Thanks everyone!
