Half Season Satellite for 2008
I must admit, football is my favorite fantasy sport. I think the shorter season has a lot to do with it but there are lots of other reasons also. I find that my interest in fantasy baseball starts to wane about the All-Star break.
Would there be any interest in a half season satellite? We could play from opening day to the All-Star break. However the games fall, that's the breaks as some players might get a game or to two more (luck of the draw). Other than the season length, the league would be set up to follow all NFBC rules.
How about something like a $250 buy-in and pay top 3. The size of the buy-in is of less interest to me than the fact that it would be a short season.
Anybody think the idea has some merit?

I do.
Once the NFL PRE-SEASON begins...add in all of the pre-draft prep work...let alone the NFL regular season...I'd be in for a high stakes "Opening Day to All-Star Break" season!
Call it the "NFL Friendly NFBC-Lite" Season!

This might be a good segway into an idea I've had for sometime of a 'hybrid' Fantasy Championship. There's the NFBC, and the NFFC, and they're great. But there's absolutely nothing in the industry that combines the two into one event/competition. I think I'll start the idea in another thread, but it would involve baseball for the first half(either to the ASB, or even later, maybe the first 20 weeks of the season), then, those who won their baseball leagues would compete in a football championship.

I think it's a GREAT idea Paul and I am sure Greg can set up some leagues for us with those parameters.

Nothing would change on my end since costs are still the same no matter when we end it. It could be done online obviously and in any format you folks would like. No problem.

Guys, I am DEFINITELY in, if this gets going. I have ALWAYS said that if half season league form, I will get into the NFBC. Not only would I enter a league that starts at the beginning of the year and ends at the all-star break, but I'd also enter a league that drafts just before the all-star break and ends at the end of the year.
I LOVE to draft. But 6 months with the same team, good or bad, is too long and boring for me.
If one of you guys start a thread for signups for a league with a $250 MAX entry, count me in. I know we can do a $125 league for one prize(free entry), but I'd rather have a first and second place prize(maybe 2 free entries).
I'll check these boards every now and then. If you start a thread on this, I'll sign up immediately.

Well, here's what I'd propose. Why not do a $250 league with an online draft the week before Opening Day since this league has a shorter season and cuts, injuries, etc., are even more important for this league. We could draft the Wednesday before Opening Day and use the same NFBC rules and end it at the All-Star break.
If you like this format at $250, just post your name here and we'll see if we can fill up a league before Opening Day. Same $250 payout as the other $250 satellite leagues. Sound good?

If Diesel's in, count me in since he's easy money in baseball.
Seriously, though, I would be interested.

Greg, after Pernelli's entry to the half season satellite, I believe it makes 7 sntries, and it's not even January...
To anyone reading this, I am donating $250 of this entry fee to you guys, because I don't know ANYONE outside of the first 12 rounds, with 15 teams. Take the entry. Take my money...Join up!
Also, Nutty Scrat and I are funny as hell on our league messageboards...lol
