Terry Haney Is The 2007 NFBC Champion
Congratulations to Terry Haney who has taken home the $100,000 grand prize in the 2007 National Fantasy Baseball Championship. Terry's Fat Tub of Goo team in Chicago League 1 finished with 3,254 points to win a hotly contested race to the finish line this season.
Among the standout offensive players on Terry's team were Alex Rodriguez (.314-54-156-24), Jimmy Rollins (.296-30-94-41), Victor Martinez (.301-25-114) and Nick Markakis (.300-23-112-18). His top pitchers were Josh Beckett (20 wins), Jake Peavy (19 wins, 234 Ks) and Joe Borowski (45 saves).
We'll have more on Terry's championship season in the days and weeks to come but we wanted to congratulate him on a terrific season and for being our fourth different grand champion in the NFBC's history.
We'll be posting all of the prize winners for all of our leagues later today so stay tuned for more as we wrap up our biggest and best NFBC season to date.

Terry we have never gotten a chance to meet, but I have heard from several people that you are a hell of a nice guy. Congrats on a well deserved overall title. I look at your team on paper and I look at the team that finishes 100th and I frankly do not see much difference on the surface. It is a compliment to you and all of the overall high finishing teams that you manage to differentiate your teams from the guy ranked 100th with the smallest moves that no one notices. You do not win unless you get the early rounds of the draft right, make strong FAAB decisions, find sleepers in the later rounds, and make solid bench/sit decisions. You did all of those things which is very rare excellent job.

Congrats on the title, well deserved and one HUGE accomplishment. Try not to take all of those winnings to Prairie Meadows. Nice job.

Terry - Congrats, it was nice to see you overcome the loss of Rocco Baldelli. Showing that even with a total loss of a top five round player that the NFBC can be won.

CONGRATS TERRY!!! In 2007, you were the VERY BEST!!
I just talked to Terry on the phone and he said he's sick for the first time in 30+ years. I guess the NFBC title race wore him down!!
But hopefully he will be back up on his feet soon enough and ready to pose with that big $100,000 NFBC check. And the winning check will be heading southwest from Iola very shortly. Congrats once again Terry on a solid, solid season.
Some folks know that Terry has been a four-year member of the NFBC and he's had a blast with this little hobby of ours. In 2004, he finished fourth overall in the NFBC main event as he won a league title and he also won the $1,250 NL-only Auction League title. He drafted all three years in Las Vegas before moving to Chicago this year because of time constraints. In fact, he wanted to spend more time with his family and took the crew to the Windy City to enjoy the March weekend with him.
Terry is going to take a little time before making plans for 2008. He loves the auction leagues and he knows that Las Vegas fills those easily, but he also enjoyed his time in Chicago. We'll take him back either place!!!
And Chest, you have heard correctly about Terry. He's as nice as they come and he has the good Midwestern values about him. We're proud to call him one of our own. He's the new CHAMP!!

I'll add one more fact to Terry's accomplishment: He becomes the fourth straight NFBC overall champ to draft solo. It's interesting to note that all four of our NFBC champs have NOT had co-managers. Artie Rastelli in 2004, Brian Oldenski in 2005 and David DiDonato in 2006 all drafted alone, as did Terry Haney this year.
Conversely, all three of our National Fantasy Football Champions thus far have had co-managers. Crazy, huh?

Congratulations Terry! You kept your lead over the final part of the season, and actually increased the gap quite a bit over 2nd place.
Congrats to Thomas Greenwald as well for taking hold of 2nd place, and never letting go.
Congrats to Mark for showing us all his stuff. He was at or near the top for what seemed like the whole season...even through some major injuries. I'm guessing he learned something from these final few weeks from perennial studs Shawn and Dan.
Now...as for Dan Kenyon and Shawn Childs...you guys ROCK! I saw the steady climb as you both could see the finish line and were racing to break the tape first!
A bit brutal that due to a "add on" MLB game...you both flip flopped in final rankings, with Dan moving from 3rd to 4th, and Shawn from 4th to 3rd. What's a $5000.00 change of possession amongst friends?
Congrats to Mark again for finishing first in such a tough league.
Congrats to Jules for finishing first in her league as well.
You all did GREAT in 2007!

Great draft Terry - I guess that was all you needed with your relentless management style to leave everyone in the dust.
I'll be looking into acquiring/refining a "superior" fat tub of goo next season in hopes of getting over the top.

Greg and Chest are right. Terry is a very nice guy. Sat next to him and can say he stole some of my players. The bad news is, the guy I wanted most that he stole was Baldelli.

[/QB][/QUOTE]He definitely lived up to it. There were at least two things I got right this season, JR a 1st-rounder, and Jason Bay disappointing yet again. I think this is the year Bay FINALLY gets dropped in the pre-season rankings by everyone else.
What do you think Greg, does Bay fall out of the top 2,3,4,5(?) rounds this season? ADP was late 2nd in '07, and if I recall late 1st/ early 2nd the year before.

Well, I see he hasn't been picked yet during the first three rounds of your mock draft and I'm not sure how you can put anyone who hit .247-21-84-4 after 538 at-bats very high in the early projections. I mean, there is SOOOOO much other talent to choose from this year with so much less risk.
Yes, I do believe this is the year he falls big-time. Will he be the best bargain of 2008 or a continuing disappointment? That's just one of the fun questions we get to answer during the next 5 months!!!
I'm ready to start my rankings for our first Fantasy Sports Magazine right now. Time to get busy.

I'm already seeing some value candidates for '08, Bay might even be one of them - gotta see how the Pirates shape up, with Jim Tracy and most of the front office gone they've got no where to go but up.
