I just received the Bill James 2008 handbook in the mail. Bliss.
With no pushing of an agenda or rankings, James book is a great read for the fantasy player.
Here are some nuggets from his book.
In 2007 Bengie Molina never scored from second on a single.
Even while playing at Coors, Todd Helton only went from first to third on a single 5 of 42 times.
Helton was James worst baserunner of 2007 as he also was 0-10 on scoring from first base on a double.
Delmon Young swung at the first pitch 51.4% of the time.
Our friend, Jack Cust, swung and missed on over 25% of his pitches.
Jose Reyes only ran into one out during the 2007 season.
Adrian Gonzalez was doubled off six times.
Prince Fielder had an OPS of 1.306 vs. curveballs last year. Aaron Hill's was 1.298, nobody else was over 1.100
Grady Sizemore saw 3,112 pitches last year.
