MLB confirmed Wednesday that the Red Sox and A's would open 2008 with a two-game series in Japan on March 25-26.

In the past have these early games counted for NFBC?

Yes, they will count and teams will have to set their starting lineups involving the players from those two teams and the Sunday night game on March 30th before that first game in Japan. With the NFBC drafts being held on March 15th, we'll be able to enter all of the leagues within a few days and have FAAB bidding set up to begin on March 24th. The results will be part of Week 0 as Shawn has indicated.
This is one reason why hosting the NFBC drafts the weekend before Opening Day is tough. I guess hosting the drafts on March 15th -- two weeks before Opening Day -- is needed with these early Japan games. We'll probably stick to that schedule in 2009 as well.
