I was just curious how many guys doing NFBC are under the age of 25? I assume we are vastly in the minority.. last year was my first year at age 23 and I hope to do this every year until I'm 103

Dave the ages run all over the spectrum. We have Crazy like a Fox aka Matt Macfarland who is 9 years old all the way up to Perry Van Hook who just celebrated his 90th birthday. I was lucky enough to be there at the assisted living facility for the party. Perry gummed down a piece of vanilla birthday cake in no time flat.

23? No kidding. Good for you. I think Greg A. has beer foam in his upper lip ornament that is older than that!

hahahahaha...
yeah, well I have been doing CDM fantasy baseball games (budget baseball and draft and play) for years.. since probably freshman or sophomore year of high school.. wanted something higher stakes... the big problem is having the money to do this.. I kinda rely on winning because I really can't afford to lose... literally.. I'm still paying back college loans haha.. but there were 2 guys drafting in Chicago last year in our league (PBR ME ASAP and Raging Bull) who looked to be, at oldest, late 20's.. I was just curious.

That is what I meant by good for you! When I was 23, I could no more have spent $1,300 on this (or what ever the equivalent was back then...I think we were still an English colony so how many guineas to a buck?) that I could have gotten a date with Olivia Newton-John!
Glad to have you aboard!

hahaha thanks man.. I can't afford it, I just do it anyways

Gotta take chances sometimes... I'd like to do the ultimate $5k league this year too.. we'll see about that one though.
... damn, 9 years old? That's pretty impressive

Money doesn’t come easy when you’re getting out of college. I started back in 2004 at age 23 in the NFBC. I was in the same boat, didn't have the money to spend but had too because I couldn't pass up going against the best. Hope to have you on board for years to come it's worth it! See you in Chicago.

Chest Rockwell aka Kent "don't call me Clark" Stermon is 70 years old with the brains of a cucumber.
So we have a wide range of ages as well as IQ's, where Chest's is so low he could trip over it.

Actually Wayne you have it a bit wrong I can get away with it with PVH because he is so old he forgets he is mad at me.
Since Wayne we are essentially in the exact same profession his jab at my IQ might have been what got ya going huh-
You are a great fella Wayne and if I don't get a chance to tell you and your family Merry Christmas then I will do it now.
Ours will be a special one with it being our daughter's first. Her favorite gift so far is the jumparoo rain forest.
Less than Dave- I think it is great you have the sacks to ante up at that age. I also think at 23 it would have been extremely beneficial for me to rub elbows with this group of older guys who have generally been pretty succesful at life. Now that I am 70 I just look back and wish what could have been.

I was 21 years, 1 month in 2006. I'll be 23 as I play my 3rd NFBC Main Event this season. I've been playing and CDM Sports since age 13. I've done very well there for a long time, but have yet to cash in my leagues in this thing.

This truly is going to be a great Christmas for you and your wife. And your daughter is obviously special. The favorite things for my kids their first Christmas was the boxes and bows!

Are you Nick- if so I was in that league with you guys. I remarked to my partner that year- those guys handled themselves a lot better than I would have against this group of guys at 21. Good luck in 2008.

Paperboys, that's cool.. I'm glad to see another youngster here... ya, I have been winning money in CDM games for years as well.. just cashed a $2k check for winning a D&P league.. I love those. My goal is to win the overall in Budget though, I have finished top 40 I believe, but have yet to taste the top 10... as for NFBC, good luck man... we gotta represent the new blood

We were a little overwhelmed by the process, as it was our first live draft and our first 15-team league. But like I said, we definitely weren't new to fantasy baseball and prepared months in advance. (As college kids, we delivered papers together at night for a month to earn extra money for the NFBC entry fee...hence the name "Paperboys") I have learned a lot from the first two years in NFBC, and although my partner has decided not to play this year, I'm really excited and optimist about 2008. This is the first year I'll feel really comfortable with the format and what to expect in the drafting process.
I'll try to be more active on the message board this season. Good luck to you as well this season!

[/QUOTE]Cool story about the paper route for extra cash!
Good Luck in 2008!
The NFBC is kinda like (but WAY harder than) the first time I did a "fantasy draft" in the Madden NFL video game. The more drafts you do...the more you realise you don't have to reach for Tony Gonzalez or TE in general...nor centers, etc. You learn to draft those DEF linemen and top LB and CB's early via trial and error.

Haven't ventured much into their D&P, but am very familiar with the salary cap games. My best finish in Budget was in 2001 when I had 11 teams in the Top 25 overall. Highest was 3rd place. (Split the teams at call-ups) Had another really good year in '04. What is your team name over there? I may know you from the BBS...
I'd love to chat CDM strategy with you if you are interested.
