NFBC CHAMPION PROFILE JOHN CRANE, LAS VEGAS $650 AUCTION
1. How did it feel to win your league title?
The NL 650 Auction came down to one last playoff game. I was heading into
this game thinking I'd finish second even though I lead by .5 points. With
Rick Thomas starting Jake Peavy and only 6 K's behind and one win behind I
knew I was toast. Jake Peavy blew up in that game and I ended up winning the
NL 650 Auction League. I felt great to win but also felt bad for Katherine
Eckert who had the lead most of the way.
2. What were the keys to your championship season?
The key to my championship season was Jake Peavy! Actually my pitching held
up most of the year. I'd say Cole Hamels, Orlando Hernandez , Chad
Billingsley and Wandy Rodriguez where key. On offense Kaz Matsui, Aaron
Roward and Jason Werth were big.
3. What draft day strategies worked best?
As far as strategies I tried to spread the risk. NL with 10 pitchers I
decided to slide more money to that side. So I guess the split was 160/100.
4. Were there any draft day strategies that didn't pan out?
What didn't work? Plenty! Todd Walker, Hung Chih Kuo etc.
5. How did FAAB work for you?
My worst Bid was for Milton Bradley at $751. My best Aaron Miles for $81.
6. How long have you been playing fantasy baseball/fantasy sports?
I've been playing fantasy baseball for 9 years. All on ESPN and CDM until
the NFBC showed up. So what does a rookie do first time out on the NFBC? He
signs up for a Auction League with some of the best players in the world.
Heck I'd never done an Auction and all of a sudden I'm facing some of the
best ever. Who's that Shawn Childs guy? He seems nice enough but he talks
funny? Must be a birth defect from being born in the east. Todd Zola?
Everyone is
excited he's here? Who is he? Brady Tinker this guy talks fast. Must of sold
cars in the past. Little did I know. Boy have I learned since!!!
7. Personal - single/married/occupation/where do you live?
Married, two sons and love them all. They are my life.
