i recently did a mock using the 16 round NFBC expert mag draft as my base grid. the draft was set up like an NFBC draft, only 23 rounds. i was able to draft all 23 players from the 16 round mag expert draft except one. i took scott baker in the 21st round.

1-4 d wright

2-12 r martin

3-4 d lee

4-12 m young

5-4 f rodriguez

6-12 p konerko

7-4 p polanco

8-12 b sheets

9-4 j hamilton

10-12 j soria

11-4 j chamberlain

12-12 k johnson

13-4 g soto

14-12 e longoria

15-4 d dejesus

16-12 j kubel

17-4 j broxton

18-12 z greinke

19-4 h bailey

20-12 h kuroda

21-4 s baker

22-12 m bradley

23-4 wm pena

no player was taken in an earlier round than in the expert draft. according to the draft projections from the draft, i have the 14th best team in the draft. (out of 15) just thought it was interesting.

I like the 2nd half of this team a lot better than the first half

i didn't think it was that bad a team, except for an absence of quality SP, but it didn't calculate very well at all with their programs projections.

Martin, Young, Polanco, Sheets, Hamilton and Soria, I think are all too early, age and injuries can crush this team. Where I think there is real value on 3 or 4 players drafted in the 2nd half

I know I am just looking at the team you posted and not the rest, but I would not be real happy with this team in the real draft in March

Polanco in the 7th and Johnson in the 12th is interesting to say the least. The lacks of SP dooms this team I think.

sheets was the 14th SP taken in the mag experts draft. i'm not trying to justify this, you just have to ubderstand how i did it.

not at all. i did this with a specific plan, using the mag draft, and it backfired. but i drafted 22 of 23 rounds with 16 rounds of players from the mag draft. it just didn't work out like i thought it would. guess i blew it.

You keep talking like this mag draft is the bible. it's a free mag draft!!!!!!!!!!!

But relax, you didn't blow anything, it's just a mock

Hope you end up in my league Do you really hope he ends up in your league? I agree with you it is a horrible strategy IMO and one I am sure he will correct before draft day, but IMO it raises a good question-

He helps you a lot in your league, but he also makes pitching very scarce relative and could make it next to impossible to compete in the overall because he hords so much pitching. I would love to see what the extreme number crunchers think but on the surface a very poorly balanced team could help you in the league while severely hurting you in the main?

As a stated too much pitching taken early..I don't think Webb lasts til 4.8 and alot of what if's late...... Longoria,Pie,Towles,Kubel Blalock

There's no sb's there tough team to compete for a title with, coulda used a ci and another power bat from 5-9.....good luck CB.

And Chest I agree with you that it would be hard to compete for the overall with that team in your league. And it's rare to have a team load up on pitching early it's usually hitting and than the panic button on pitching.

CB, interesting draft !!!

I see little effect on the overall. Webb, Verlander and Shields still leaves a huge amt of guys who can be taken. I would imagine teams in my real draft will take these guys around the same pick# anyway. Am I missing something?

i've been trying different approaches...it wasn't my intentions, but i really think this team could screw up a draft and do ok. hunter in the 3rd was a mistake, not sure about kubel, pie, or gathright. but there's nothing wrong with going in with great pitching is there? knowing you have holliday, vlad, and tori leading your offense.

Third times the charm? Definitely much better than the others. Three Judy's (Taveras, Bourn, and Gathright) are a problem, but there is alot to like about this team.

If 1 guy takes too much pitching early it forces the hand of the others that either get less pitching themselves or have to take their pitchers early too. Possibly wrecking your overall plan cause some won't reach and will continue to feast on all the offense left while some will continue to take pitching too early in order to be able to compete in those cats. Nobody may come out of it with a balanced team and nobody can win the big enchilada from your league because 1 guy maybe screwed up the whole league. I think this can be overcome. I'm not saying it's impossible to win in a league like this, but it does present another obsticle.
