NFBC CHAMPION PROFILE – JASON WISSEHR MARCH 24th $250 LEAGUE 2
1. How did it feel to win your league title?
I have won several baseball championships before but $2,000 is the most money that I have ever won by far. I was surprised that I did so well in my first year playing in a mixed league. I also feel a little lucky given the way that I dominated the league that I was in with 130 total points and a 24 point margin of victor. The win gave me the confidence to know that I can compete with other top notch owners.
2. What were the keys to your championship season?
I got the 8th pick in a $250 Satellite 15 team Mixed League. My first 6 picks were: David Wright, Hansley Ramirez, Jake Peavy, Adam Dunn, Billy Wagner, C.C. Sabathia. I also drafted Troy Tulowitski 18 and David Weathers 22 in later rounds. So, my draft was the key to my winning season.
3. What draft day strategies worked best?
Be patient and react correctly to other team’s selections. Don't throw any categories.
4. Were there any draft day strategies that didn't pan out?
Not really. However, there were mistakes made. Particularly, drafting Anthony Reyes and Jason Jennings and not drafting Prince Fielder and Russell Martin.
5. How did FAAB work for you?
I like the format. I was able to get Carlos Pena and Aaron Hill. Getting Pena early on in his breakout year made a huge difference.
6. How long have you been playing fantasy baseball/fantasy sports?
Fourteen years. This was my first year playing in NFBC and my first year playing in a NL/AL league. The last four years I have played in other public NL only leagues and I also play in a private NL only league every year.
7. Personal - single/married/occupation/where do you live?
I am 33 years old and my wonderful wife and I are celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary this year. We have three energetic sons ages 7, 5 and 1. We own Marissa Station Bed Breakfast (www.marissastation.com and I am a senior business system analyst for Reinsurance Group of America, Inc. We live in Marissa, IL which is about 40 miles from St. Louis, Missouri. I have an identical twin brother Nathan (thus the team name “Twin Killers”) who was a big help to me on draft day and always advised me with roster and free agent decisions during the season.
