Ron Shandler passes on the big show!
I know, I know, Ron Shandler had the flu. But I offered three times for him to do the 1300 auction in Las Vegas. It's my spot and I'd have been happy to step aside as a co-owner and let him do his thing. I'd paid the fee. I'm sure Greg would have got him a room. Which proves to me he's scared of a draft were the best pay for something at stake. Sad!!!

My definition of sad is a little different. Mine is an angry air traffic controller from the Pacific Northwest who constantly throws money at a hobby he is terrible at and then disrespects a nice guy who is just trying to help people. I know bjoak run on sentence but it will not be my last.

Dude - if I was ron, I wouldn't want ANYTHING to do with you.
U must like isolating yourself. Lonely road, but it's yours.

How many years are we going to have a thread like this before you realize it has NOTHING to do with what you think it does?
Ron is HEAVILY involved in Tout Wars with two teams and the operation of it. He has employees that play in LABR.
His plate is full with other items also. Move on, and quit acting like a child when someone doesn't take you up on your kind offer.

Bowing to him in one post, calling him out after he's gone. THAT is sad.
On my tombstone-

Ever think he might just not have wanted to sit next to you for that long. I don't know anyone who would.

He wouldn't have to sit next to me. Hell I'd stay out of the room and go party. As far as running the team I'd let him do that too. Greg could fix it that I'd have no input. I wouldn't want it.
I just like to see him compete. Stop making excuses for him. The offer is still open. I e-mailed Greg and Tom the time I made the offer. Its for real with no strings attached.

I don't have a problem with John asking Ron to take this team. I really don't. He said the money would go to charity. I think we all know that Ron doesn't want to compete in these type of events and I don't blame him. Plus he's got a busy schedule before the NFBC with trips all across the country. He's also in Tout Wars and runs that, and this year they'll have a TV presence. So I know this wouldn't work for him. But John offered and Ron has declined.
No problem. Let's move on and save the insults for when we see each other.

Nice to see that the sniping and name calling from the home leagues is carrying over
Greg, you and Tom do a great job of putting out the fires. Kudos.

I for one would love Ron to compete with the best in the world , hell whats the fee's to play in tout wars. This was a chance and he's passed , why such an attack on Walla.I do have more respect to the guys that play for money then the ones that get together for a magazine and nothing is at stake. I realize Ron and others have a good thing going and they dont need to compete in the money league's , because if they dont do well it could hurt them.[at least thats what ive heard why they wont play]
Ive even heard their lawyers have advised them not to play.Look how bad Mattew Berry [the talented mr roto] did in his one year in one of Greg's event, i think dead last and never heard from again.I also heard Berry quit and didnt manage his team , thats why i would never buy anything from him.

Mark me down as another who would find it very intriguing to see every one from Tout Wars play in the NFBC main...to see if one triumphs...or at least earns their respect vs. a public competition.
I deleted a stupid rant on this subject...but still agree with my rant.

I agree that we can't fault Walla too much on this one, although we don't need a lot of public attacks on the message boards.
Ron is one of the leading people in this industry and I read his books in great detail. In my opinion, this is the leading contest in the industry and that's why I play here.
For someone to offer to pay for Ron's team just to see him compete is not the worst idea I've ever heard of.
However, baseball and fantasy baseball is Ron's profession and most people in the NFBC can't say that. So, if he is busier than us during March, it really comes as no surprise.
I would really like to see Ron in the main event some day, but I doubt I will. I didn't know about Matthew Berry.....that's embarassing.....and ESPN's site is worse since he took over IMO.

Lance im with you, Tout Wars does nothing for me , with nothing on the line it doesnt matter.
Have these guys put up a thousand or two of their own money and if they do well or win then i would give them my respect.

All I can say from playing in both, is that there does NOT need to be any money be on the line when competing with this group of guys.
Put in NFBC terms, would you need any money on the line if you were to beat Childs, StevieGuys, Thomas and the like if they were all in the same league? No. Beating them would be more important than the money. The money always follows when you achieve something like that.
Edit: There is trading in those leagues also which makes fees a bad idea, unlike here. Fees would also detract from the main goals that each league is trying to achieve.

John, I have to agree with Lance here on one point: Both Tout Wars and LABR allow trades and we both know how that plays into who wins each year. Nothing against both leagues as trust me the bragging rights are very valuable to every single owner and the competition is EXTREMELY tough in both events. But the dynamic of allowing trades changes everything as some guys dump categories on Draft Day to then trade their excess for it later and others make a lot more deals than others (certainly me). The NFBC puts so much emphasis on your Draft Day knowledge and your in-season management (i.e. seeing potential sleepers before others do) than either Tout or LABR.

I was responding to Eddie as he said there is "nothing" on the line. And you have just answered that concern also

The point is coming where you are going to have to compete here if you are in the industry. HQ should have a rep, at least. It is a sign of weakness.
