Satellite League Results from Tonight---What do you think??

Post by FFBL23 » Tue Feb 26, 2008 6:38 pm

I participated in a $250 Satellite league tonight. The league was full of tough owners and so many of my guys were taken a few picks before it was my turn. It was a weird draft for me as most of the players that I drafted weren't in my plan at all, but I feel that I did get good value with some of the picks. Anyway, I had the 11th spot and here's how it looks:

R1 Johan Santana

R2 Brandon Phillips

R3 Nick Markakis

R4 Magglio Ordonez

R5 Joe Mauer

R6 Brian McCann

R7 Andruw Jones

R8 Gary Sheffield

R9 Fausto Carmona

R10 Matt Cain

R11 Edwin Encarnacion

R12 Julio Lugo

R13 Eric Gagne

R14 Brandon Lyon

R15 Scott Rolen

R16 Bill Hall

R17 Huroki Kuroda

R18 Lyle Overbay

R19 Yunel Escobar

R20 Randy Wolf

R21 Franklin Gutierrez

R22 Heath Bell

R23 Jake Westbrook

R24 Tim Wakefield

R25 Jason Bergmann

R26 Kenny Rogers

R27 Brian Giles

R28 Jon Rauch

R29 Greg Aquino

R30 Eddie Guardado

Starting pitching went very early and that was very unexpected. This caused me to not get another big K pitcher to go with Santana. I think that might hurt me. Relievers went very late as expected. Thoughts on the draft??? I welcome any praise or bashing that you might offer.

I don't think it's too bad at all. You got a little pop, a little speed, good avg hitters and the makings of a decent staff. MIGHT be a bit short in closers, but you'll have chances to rectify that.

Santana and Cain are a good start for k's. It would help to have another horse, but you have good balance.

I think barring injuries, you'll be in the running.

Your draft will be determined 3-8. Personally, I like the picks, but there are a couple question marks. But if they rise up, you done well!!

I think yer pitching is def strong, esp if some late picks (Wolfman, Rogers, Wake, Westy) come thru, I like how you grabbed 2 good catchers, and not Too early. Not much speed except Lugo & Phillips, but all in all team looks like a contendah! Good Luck!

Mags in the 4th (going in the 3rd in every draft) Mauer in the 5th (won't be there) McCann in the 6th (went in the 3rd round in my satellite)

If it's a 15 team league then, your league must have taken tequila shots before the start of the draft.

I love 1-8. Just great picks.

Gagne and Lyon at closer, I see major question marks there. Gagne injury wise, I'm guessing Lyon doesn't hold onto job the whole year. Maybe pickup Riske to backup Gagne if he's still available. I know Turnbow probably was drafted but he's kind of a mental case.

I think it's a decent draft. I'm not fond of your 21st-30th rounds but everything before that looks ok.

Pitching is mediocre so I will obviously spending most of my FAAB on pitching but I met all my targets in hitting. SBs ended a little light but cheap speed can be found easier than power.

the first half of your draft is pretty amazing! you fit 12lbs in a 10lb bag. very well done.

i'm not a fan of the 2nd half of your draft, but too each their own. i see you coming up short in steals though.

That 1st team is pretty good, i love his picks from 1 to 22.His catching value is great especially how far those stud catchers fell.

Jeff your hitting is awesome but you could have used one more stud pitcher, you will need a healthy Sheets and Harden to win. Also i thought you were lucky to get Lyon in the 15th round pick 11 at the time you only had BJ Ryan and if Lyon gets the saves that was a big pick.

Should finish first in steals. Way behind in HR's and RBI's. Two horses at the front of the rotation but very thin after that.

I don't know much, but "sinsei Gekko" tells me that waiting till round 13 to take your first arm is not a good strategy! ;)

Agreed, that is by far my weak spot. It seemed every time I had a guy pegged to address speed he went a pick ahead of me and I didnt think the value of the next SB guy was better than other hitters. Hoping for a 6 (or better if lucky) and stronger numbers out of the other categories.

that is a good offense but don't kid yourself w/o miracle work on waivers it is a 2-3 in stolen bases at best.
