NFBC Message Boards

Now that we've returned from our live drafts, entered in all of the rosters and are now just waiting for the NFBC season to begin, I've had time to reflect on our live events. In hindsight, it was a huge success as operationally things went relatively well. We had a few hiccups as always, but for the most part I couldn't be more pleased.



Phone drafts are always a pain and thus Orlando 3 and the Sunday tri-city Super Draft League went longer than expected. Both could have been sped up a bit, but that happens in those situations. We at least avoided any phone auctions this year and it sure sounds like the auctions went very well in each city as we had solid auctioneers this year.



I also know we MUST have coffee on Saturday morning in Las Vegas as folks start milling into the Draft room at 8 a.m. We'll have that for football this year and definitely for baseball in 2009. Jill has learned her lesson there.



When it comes to food, this is an area that maybe can be improved. As everyone knows, I've never wanted to add an Events Fee to your entry fee as it's our responsibility to pay for hotel expenses and even offer a beverage or two during your 4 hour stay with us. Food at these convention places are a big, big expense and I've always felt that anyone who feels they can't make it through a four hour draft without something to eat should bring anything they want with them to the draft. We don't outlaw any cooler or food choice.



Now, if there is enough sentiment for us to provide food at the draft for an additional expense to your signup fee, I'll gladly go ahead with that. Trust me, it would lower our costs if we are spending more on food & beverage, and if our NFBC owners are willing to pay for it that's even better. Next year, if you want sandwiches ready for you in the middle of the room during your second break and you're willing to pay $25-$50 per person on top of your entry fee for this, I'll gladly look into the costs and have that waiting for you. Again, it won't hurt me at all. But if you feel that's just a wasted expense and you'd rather eat before you draft and then eat afterwards, then I'll leave it status quo.



I'm interested in your thoughts as I've heard some folks who wish we added food at the draft (which obviously would prolong the draft a bit, too). Give me your thoughts either way here and I'll consider all options.



As for football, those drafts are done in 2:15 or 2:30 at the most and I think providing food there just prolongs the obvious. I like the way the NFFC flows quickly for everyone and drinks are always available if anyone wants to mill around longer and look at the draft boards. Baseball, however, is almost twice as long and I could see a need for food if everyone agrees. But I won't add any additional expense if the majority doesn't want it.

Greg, obviously I am just one man, but I don't think the food is a necessary expense. I saw people bring in sandwiches and whatnot, so it's my opinion that people who needed it or thought they need it, came prepared in that regard. I know that I have enough nervous energy, that it's not necessary, but again, that's just me.

I was in Chicago for the draft. There were chips and popcorn provided for the players as snacks. I don't think any more food was needed and I would rather not pay an extra $25-$50 for a few sandwiches.

As a first timer, thanks for the wonderful hospitality and a first class event.

I agree that we don't need food for the main event. It's only a 4 hour event so folks should eat before the draft or bring something to the table with them.

Greg - I don't need a sandwich for $25-$50 added to the price either. The cookies in NYC (at no cost) was good enough for me.



The draft is fast and the breaks are short. I see no need to add an extra 30 minutes or so in order to set aside eating time.

Nope...25-50 bucks can get you a nice full meal in Vegas...much better than a deli sandwich.



The chips and dip and pretzels were enough to hold the stomach from grumbling.



The free open bar was great once the draft was over!



The 10:00am start allows time for a quick breakfast or bagel/cream cheese type snack. Coffee helps kill the appetite, so that would help...and a post draft meal is something to look forward to again.

For some reason I was expecting food, so I was hungry during the draft. If I know ahead of time that there will not be food, I can plan better.

Easy enough to grab something on your way in, I wouldn't take on the expense of providing overpriced food.

Actually, I would have welcomed some pizza or something about 1/2 way into the 5.5- 6 hour auction draft on Friday afternoon. Difficult to get to some food in Vegas in a 10 minute break period given the location of the conference rooms. As for Saturday, no need. The chips and cookies served the purpose. Thanks for asking.

How difficult is it to have plans A, B and C ready before your next pick when you have so much time between picks (15 teams!). If you need the majority of your one minute to make your decision (for almost all of your picks) you are either incredibly indecisive or malprepared

How difficult is it to have plans A, B and C ready before your next pick when you have so much time between picks (15 teams!). If you need the majority of your one minute to make your decision (for almost all of your picks) you are either incredibly indecisive or malprepared [/QUOTE]sorry i was taking my time to make my picks. i didn't need a "lirano" type situation like i had the day before. i also had my kid and wife pestering me thoughout the draft (even though i told them not to).



i get a minute on the clock and it's my choice to pass. if u don't like it you can go pound on the wall. now quit your whining (that's what you're doing). thanks!

Orlando was run really smooth. Nice job. As far as food goes Not necessary You can eat before and unless I am mistaken,there is a brand new eatery called a deli which I am sure exists in Vegas NY Chicago and even in Orlando.

[/QUOTE]In Greg's original post he was blaming the tri city phone issue as the cause for the crazy length of our draft. The purpose of my post was to clarify that the phone system wasn't the problem.



No one is denying your right to use your full minute or even pass. You shouldn't deny anyone elses right to complain about it either. I (as I chose) elected not to stay in Orlando that night and had to drive to Jacksonville after the draft. I am no more important than the other 14 members of the league as is the case with you sir.



Not to be too critical, I actually enjoy your message board posts, personality and skills.



I still wish you good luck but will make you pay for wasting 20 minutes of my life by finishing higher than yourself in the standings

I do appreciate the update Andy as I didn't spend as much time in that draft as the others that day. We had four going on at once in Las Vegas and I spent most of my time in the Ultimate Auction League as that one can always get testy. I was just surprised to see how long that Super Draft League was going and figured it was the phone hookup. But folks did say that everyone was taking their full minute, which is fine by me. I'd rather have you guys blame each other for a long draft than me.

Andy - again, sorry for taking my time during the draft. I was not (and shouldn't be) concerned with your post draft driving arrangements. I was trying to do MY best.



I will say that the level of competition on sunday was higher than any of my other events. Of which, I'm not thrilled about my team in that league. In addition, I felt a need to "rush" a couple of my picks as "news" of who I selected on saturday would have likely made it to a few of the contestants.
