***Invalid Positions Listed on STATS***
I'm going through the STATS player lists to cross-reference our position-eligibility lists. So far, I've found at least 15 mistakes:
Russ Adams - STATS has him listed at 3B, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 27 games played, 3B-16, DH-7, 2B-2)
Eliezer Alfonzo - STATS has him listed at Catcher, NFBC has him at Utility (as per 2008 NFBC Eligibility List)
Clint Barmes - STATS has him listed at Shortstop, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 27 games played, SS-8, 2B-5, OF-5, 3B-1)
Henry Blanco - STATS has him listed at Catcher, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 22 games played, C-14, 1B-2)
Juan Castro - STATS has him listed at 3B, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 54 games played, 3B-17, SS-16, 2B-8)
Ronny Cedeno - STATS has him listed at Shortstop, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 38 games played, SS-15, 2B-8, 3B-4)
Alex Cintron - STATS has him listed at 3B, NFBC has him at Utility (as per 2008 NFBC Eligibility List)
Julio Franco - STATS has him listed at 1B, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 55 games played, 1B-16, 3B-2, DH-1)
D'Angelo Jimenez - STATS has him listed at SS, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 73 games played, SS-11, 2B-10, 3B-1)
Matt Kata - STATS has him listed at 3B, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 78 games played, 3B-17, OF-13, 2B-12, SS-9, 1B-4, DH-3)
Andy Marte - STATS has him listed at Third Baseman, NFBC has him at Utility (2007: 20 games played, 3B-19)
Pablo Ozuna - STATS has him listed at Third Baseman, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 27 games played, 3B-9, OF-7, DH-7, 2B-3, SS-1)
Olmedo Saenz - STATS has him listed at 1B, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 92 games played, 1B-13, DH-5, 3B-3)
Mark Sweeney - STATS has him listed at 1B, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 106 games played, 1B-13, OF-10)
Daryle Ward - STATS has him listed at First Baseman, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 79 games played, 1B-16, OF-11)
All of these would fall under Rule 6 concerning Position Eligibility:
e) Players who played 20 or more games in the majors last year and didn't play 20 or more games at one position will be deemed UT-only eligible in 2008 unless otherwise designated by the NFBC Commissioner. The NFBC Commissioner will rule on player eligibility prior to the draft as he deems necessary. Those eligibility lists are final.
It seems that STATS is missing this component of the rules in determining position eligibility. Greg/Tom, please alert them to this error.

Great job, KOQ, better now than after the season begins.

Here's an interesting one:
Brian Myrow - STATS has him listed at First Baseman, NFBC rules should have him at Utility (2007: 12 games played, zero appearances at a postion)

Okay, I believe these are the last four with incorrect positions listed:

Kevin Thompson - STATS has him listed at Outfiled, NFBC rules has him at Utility (2007: 22 games, OF-19, DH-3)

I'm going to take the Executive Decision route on both players and keep them eligible at their current positions. Both played more in the minors last year than in the majors and taking their situations into account I've just decided to give them position eligibility to start the season.
Morales remains qualified at 1B
Callaspo remains qualifed at 3B
Both qualify under the NFBC authority to designate certain players as eligible as deemed necessary. Morales is on the First Basemen list. Check.
Callaspo is on the Third Basemen list. Check.

I sent all of these examples to STATS this morning and we'll confer on Monday to make sure we have these correct this week before FAAB is run. Thanks Glenn for checking these over and hopefully we'll have smooth sailing this FAAB season. Jack Cust aged me in dog years last year (or was that just Gekko who aged me in dog years?) and we'd all like to avoid that this year!!

Looks good, Greg.
Curious about something -- did you have STATS change the eligibilities for these 24 players, or did you give them the global rule (6.e) to make their entire database (present and future) adhere?

I gave them our 2008 rules, which they will apply to any new call-up during the season. But yes, I told them which ones we had to manually change because of my rulings before Draft Day. Since everyone had our eligibility lists on Draft Day, they obviously had to coincide on the web site now, which STATS applied. Again, any call-up going forward will be dealt with according to our 2008 eligibility guidelines.
