The Return Of The Box Scores

I don't know about you, but I'm as giddy for the return of box scores in my daily newspaper as I am about seeing my MLB Extra Innings in High Definition this year!!!

I mean, is that juvenile to be so excited about seeing 4 inch type again?? How can something as simple as 5 2 3 3 .300 be so exciting for someone as old as me?
I have to admit, even though box scores for spring training have been in USA Today the last month, I barely glanced at them. Yeah, I look at the pitching stats, but it's about as much fun as watching an NFL pre-season game. I need box scores THAT COUNT.
So as Monday approaches, I'm counting down to the Tuesday morning when my morning newspaper is filled with box scores more than I am the actual games on Monday. It's like an old friend is returning after being away for 26 weeks. And the best thing about it is that this old friend will be around every day for the next 26 weeks.
Am I crazy or is anyone else like me??

Greg,
I don't get the paper, but I do check the online boxscores every morning, especially pitching lines for my starters!
I also check to see what my later round picks are doing, so I don't miss out on benching players if I need to.

I LOVE to check the live stats from work and I must admit that any league that has live standings (like the NFBC now has) is addicting when your team is doing well. When your team isn't doing well, then I never click on Live Standings!!

[/QUOTE]Sooooo true.
Live scoring is your best friend when the players are doing well, a plague when they're not.
Box scores, make time for an additional 10 minutes to read the paper!

And I love checking the boxes so much that when the paper leaves one out because they wanted to give a little more space in the Sports section for that:
1) Moron like Terrence Moore of the AJC and one of his STUPID columns.
2) Local massage parlor with an all-coed staff (right...and what is your major honey!)
3) Store selling the BBQ grills...like we need an ad...we can find them just with our man-senses!
I go ballestic! It is bad enough in the 'burbs where you cannot get west-coast boxes, but when they drop one for space concerns it is just not fair!

The thing I'm going to miss is LIVE STANDINGS in the live scores section.
Why did these get removed the other night?

Greg Totally agree. And as much as I love the live scoring and live standings features, it does diminish the awesomeness of waking up a little early for 6 months, excited about reading boxscores, or at least updated standings. If nothing else, fantasy baseball turned me into a morning person.

I miss the little red and green/blue dots.
I miss the funny descriptions like "Double Play, 6-8-3, 3 runs score."
I miss the suspense when CBS folks realize "Double Play, 6-8-3, 3 runs score" makes no sense, and they go back and change things and it all develops on your screen in turbo mode.
I miss MLB.com's Mozaic feature showing 6 games supposedly with TV-like quality that are actually quite blurry, and the little scoreboard beneath each screen that tells you what happens before you see it happen. Someone could have filed a class-action suit last year and easily won.
I miss Gekko's attention to every single detail.
I miss watching my offense go 1-45.
I miss Rick starting what seemed like 25 starters each week at me lol
I will miss Ryan Braun. I should have set my KDS for 8th instead of 15th, and just taken the guy.
I will not miss Jason Fucking Kendall.
Have fun guys! It's almost time!

Got my Hi-Def flat screen with PIP hooked up with my PC this year so I can split the screen, watch a live game, and have the computer run the live updates on the same screen side-by-side
To borrow my teenager's terminolgy...
............SWEET!

This is PURE geekery... the height of fantasy baseball nerd-dom exaggerated into an excess of cash splurged haphazardly into high-ticket electronics... you sir, terrorize the soul of the nation with your excesses!!!!!!!
YOU AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE THE REASON OUR COUNTRY IS IN TROUBLE RIGHT NOW!!!!
I'm gonna set that up this weekend, that does sound SWEET... now do I put it on the flat panel in my office near the computer or the bigger one in the living room... awww, hell - I'll just set it up both wirelessly and put my laptop through the living room connection and my desktop through the office screen.
Thanks for the idea

The one major benefit of checking the box scores online instead of the newspapers the following morning is I actually get to read the box score of any west coast games!
I actually check box scores during the night but always like to look at them again the next day in the newspaper. And if my team had a great night, then heck I might glance at that newspaper 2 or 3 times extra!
