If you picked catchers early would you still do it ?
Russell Martin
Victor Martinez
Jorge Posada
Are you feeling it's early they will come around ?

personally, i stay away from drafting catchers early(and so does shandler)...too injury prone and can get same production 10-15 rounds later....ala molina...pierzynski....towles...doumit...RT

I'm not a big proponant of taking catchers early either. I did it this year because of the gap between the top tier and the rest and where I picked in the draft.
If Rick thinks that those catchers will stack up to Martinez by the end of the year, I wish him all the luck in the world.

It does remind me of some of my favorite stats from last year. Molina had 19 home runs last year, was on base over 160 times and yet had 38 runs scored. Amazingly, not once did he score from second base on a single last year.

Rick, What about your Ultimate Team? Victor in the 2nd round, I think that is taking a catcher early...

I hate horrible catchers and I am sarting to hate good catchers too and I have one of each this year (well, the jury is out on Laird, but he was drafted in a horrible catcher's place). I might designate the 10th and 11th round for catchers in 2009, guys who won't sink me and who I won't be relying on for a ton of production either.

That hasn't worked so well for Orlando #1 this year. There were four catchers picked from rounds 10-12. Johjima round 10(mine) BA .080, Pudge 11 .148, Soto 11 .261, and Salty 12 minors.
Yuck!

Yep, catchers are like tight ends in football. In general, you're happy with any positive stats.
