NFBC Message Boards

We have a major announcement that will be released tomorrow at 2 p.m. EST. It will affect our live drafts in baseball and football going forward and will enhance all of our online contests as well. This is a deal that has been in the works for months and will be good for the NFBC, good for fantasy players and good for the fantasy sports industry in general.



This is going out exclusively to the business wire tomorrow and then we'll announce it on the NFBC and NFFC Message Boards and of course via e-mail to all of our members. Moving headquarters to Las Vegas as the winter took a toll on Greg/Tom and company.

Tom, moved to Las Vegas 10 years ago from Chicago and never looked back; although, I have gone back 3 times for vacation during da summer....no more winters for me.

I think we are looking at a big-time partnership announcement. At least I hope it is a partnership and not a takeover!

I can't. If I could do it without getting slapped I would have announced it at the Saturday NFBC drafts in March. We had white foam-boards with the announcement and new logos all made up and we were going to announce it before the Saturday main events. It was sooooooooo cool and it would have been a great buzz in the room when we unveiled the new logos. But then the lawyers put a halt to the announcement and took a month to finalize the deal. Lawyers do get paid by the hour, you know.

It's all good news, trust me. Tom and I aren't going anywhere. We're not any richer. We just have a plan in place to expand EVERYTHING. How's that for good news?

F & W Publications Inc. will purchase Krause Publications for $120 million, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel newspaper. Krause Publications publishes "leisure-time" books and magazines, including publications for the antiques and collectibles market. Krause Publications is an employee-owned company located in Iola, " a village of about 1,200 population nestled in the beautiful rolling hills and woods of central Wisconsin."



F & W calls itself a leading publisher of special interest magazines and books for writers, artists, photographers, graphic designers, woodworkers and others. The company was established in 1913 and publishes Popular Woodworking and Writer's Digest magazines, among others.



F & W's Book Division offers more than 525 titles under six imprints. In addition to the core how-to books in art, writing, design and woodworking, it covers lifestyle subjects as diverse as home remodeling, songwriting, genealogy and wedding planning.



William F. Reilly, former head of Primedia, joined with a private investment firm to buy F & W earlier this year. Reilly had been president of Macmillan Publishing Company and went on to found K-III Communications in 1989. In 1997, K-III Communications Corporation changed its name to Primedia Inc., which later merged with About Inc., the publisher of the About.com Web sites.



In 1999, Reilly retired from his position as chairman and CEO of Primedia after 10 years at the helm. He had grown Primedia revenues to more than $1.5 billion through well-timed acquisitions and start-ups of consumer and business media products. The reason for the decision was "to take early retirement to pursue private investment opportunities," although the New York Times said Reilly was forced out by his majority investors, Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Company.

Nice research MK. Yes, our employee-owned company was sold in 2002 and then that company sold us again in 2005. Since we were 100 percent employee owned in 2002, we were ALL happy folks then!! We're still happy now, but two new owners in four years after having one owner during the first 50 years has been interesting.



KJ, I didn't realize that story. We'll have to trade some stories about that ownership group.
