Yeah, it is really quiet right now. Just saw where Beltran got sent to the Astros. That may generate some action. That is why I don't like just American or National leagues because it just doesn't seem right to just lose a guy like that purely because he gets traded to the wrong team.

Yes, it's been quiet but that's understandable as the pre-season is when the smack talking is best and the groundwork is laid for building that winning fantasy team. Now it's all business and sometimes it's not fun, especially when injuries are catching up to you or you have little chance to improve your team.
I am interested in feedback on the Beltran trade, especially in the Las Vegas NL Auction League. Who has the most money in that league and will Beltran command a maximum bid? He's already one of the most valuable players in the NFBC, but if you look at how poorly he's hit at Kaufman Stadium so far this year, the move to Minute Maid Park has to be an improvement in that lineup, doesn't it?
Anyway, I'm looking for some good, solid baseball talk on these boards for the next few days. Let's see what the NFBC guys think of this trade and anything else in general relating to baseball and the run for the $100,000.

There's going to be some bidding in both the NL and AL Auction leagues. While there was some talk a while back from a member of my league about budgeting money for the season. He never did talk about auction leagues. Being the auction leagues are sort of the stepchild of the big league I guess I understand. But the auction leagues are closer to the heart and soul of fantasy baseball.
The big mid season trade means nothing to the mix leagues and everything to the auction leagues. The tradition still lives.

Actually, I did cover NL only and AL only leagues in the columns on CREATiVESPORTS.com, regarding not spending all of your FAAB (in mixed leagues) in May.
As I wrote back on June 3, "While this advice (don't shoot your wad by May) is true with mixed leagues, it isn’t necessarily as true for NL only or AL only leagues. About five times per year, on average, a quality (if not better) player changes leagues. Most recently, Milton Bradley and Raul Mondesi changed leagues." Buster's CREATiVESPORTS.COM June 2, 2004 column on Money Management
For the record, if I was in the NL only league, I would spend as much as it takes (even if it means the entire budget) to get Beltran. While it would be best to save a few bucks if possible, an impact player like Beltran is worth whatever it takes, even if it means that you can't replace your 23rd best player with a free agent.
I wouldn't spend my entire budget on a journeyman pitcher, however.

Buster, Do you football too? Just wondering because if you make it out to Las Vegas for the NFFC I'll buy you a beer. Enough is Enough.

I know the Astros had to try to win now and Beltran will help them, but I still don't see them winning that division. I could be wrong and this could pull the team together, but something down there just isn't right and Jimy Williams has to be a big part of the reason. I still would not be surprised to see Beltran end up with the Yankees if the Astros don't turn it around in the next 2 months. That brings up an interesting question as I've never been in a National or American only league. Do guys who had him in American only leagues totally lose him or do they retain his rights if he were to get traded back to the American League? Just wondering because it could happen.

In most leagues (some have there ownrules) u would lose him ......But come july you get $100 FAAB to bid on free agents . But if you lose players Via interleague trades you get that 100 plus the contract money of that player lost in the trade ...SO in my league 4X4 AL only ..if you own Beltran at $41(his contact) u would now have $141 in your FAAB budget that starts in a week ,, PS: If i was in an NL only i would spend my whole budget on Beltan(but maybe thats why im in last )

Tommorows FAAB session should be very interesting in the auction Leagues. Dotel for the American Leagues and Of course Beltran in the National. Both will be over $500 and Beltran could go for much more. I can't find a way to see the FAAB$$ still available but if someone has $900 or more I would freeze everyone out with a bid 1$ over the next owners FAAB total.

Las Vegas American League Auction Save Standings
FAAB$ Walla Walla 37 12 198
CC's Desperados 28 11 47
KLN AL Roto 25 9.5 471
Howie Clark Experience 25 9.5 340
Wise Guy Baseball 24 8 800
PIGGY 23 7 721
Worst Russians Ever 17 5.5 407
Wildwood Weeds 17 5.5 816
Nuke LaLouche 13 4 822
Captains of Tequila 10 3 391
Speak Softly 4 2 516
Fatal If Swallowed 1 1 411
A bid of 817 gives Nuke La Louche Dotel. But will he shoot the wad?? The Russians and Captains have been in contention and could improve their overall point totals with a Closer. Piggy has the $$$ for a substantial bid. Speak Softly NEEDS a Closer and only Fatal If needs one worse.
I'm looking for a 472 bid (Or he can gamble KLN won't pursue Dotel and bid 412)from Speak Softly to freeze out KLN Roto, The Russians, Captains and Fatals. Wise guy, Piggy, Wildwood, and Nuke could spoil it but what do they bid?? That's what I see.
What's your take??

Nuke Lalouce goes 717 to roster Dotel. Now thats a gutsy bid and leaves him $100.

Nuke has $105 left. My error on previous post.

Beltran went for 824 (1 dollar more than necessary to ensure he went to the 11th place team).
I am a little surprised that they spent evething on him, particularly with the amount of interleague trades coming in the next couple of weeks.
Its good for the league however, as if he had slipped a bit - the league would be over!

Thanks for the insight. Good to hear the teams in the second division are still competing.
I'd like to be able to watch the waiver action in all three leagues as well as check the team standings in all the Leagues including the NFBC.
Haven't found a way yet.
From your post I'm assumming Ole Half Mile has got a dominant postion and Beltran would make him super tough to collar. Seems early for that but again I can't see the Standings and scoring.

The teams with the dominat positions must be Leader Board Sports NL and Team Barber as Ole Half Mile is in the other American Auction League. My mistake Again!!?!

Actually, I meant - we are tie for second and had 823 available. Outfield is our weakness. If he would have dropped....you could have mailed us the check now

I can see why you were super confidant IF you had gotten Beltran. Super pitching stats and needing help in BA(262), RBI, and SB Beltran would have IMPACTED your team where it was most needed.
"You can send the Check now" is a pretty bold statement in the nebulous fantasy world filled with vageries and unknowns what with the perisability of ballplayers. But!! you can't say it afterward. Would have put you in a super strong postion in a very even race (Fisrt four places 2 points apart)-- So it isn't just idle smack talking and you've still got the FAAB$ to get a Bat or 2. It was the time to go for it and you did. Absolutey the right move.
Your pitching will have to stay outstanding (Milton was shaky last night and Miller got sent to the DL) and I see A. Boone lurking on your bench poised to add some pop late in the season.
Today!! ,it looks like a tight race that goes to the wire. You'll probably move up in BA as you current level will probably rise just because its low. Some hitter that fits the bill will appear near the trade deadline (They usually do). I like your chances but you Know how it can GO! I'm sure. Best to you.

Thanks for the vote of Confidence. Note - we moved into first place today for the first time and hope to stay there.
Beltrans 2HRs and SB would be a nice addition. Id love to see someone with a big bat get moved shortly. We shall see!

we decided that Dotel (even though he can't make near the impact that Beltran can) was the type of player that could make that 'huge difference'.
He could mean 8+ pts to us in the final overall standings. We came up with the 715 ammount because it did exactly what you said, left us with 100 left over.
Maybe Mike Wood for '15' will end up being the better deal anyway

oops, we spent '25' on Mike Wood, not '15'. One win so far! lol.
