May 4th FAAB!!!!!

Alright everyone, this is THE post you’ve been waiting for! Who will be THE #1 FAAB pickup this week? I’m a pessimist (realist) at heart so I tend to see things a bit more negatively than most.. Enjoy!
Max Schrezer
Good: He looked great this week coming out of the bullpen. Fastball looks nasty. Had real nice minor league numbers (albeit in 30 innings).
Bad: Couple things.
One – Inexperienced above Double-A level…along the same lines as Cueto. Last year, Schrezer had trouble with walking Double-A hitters.
Two – Having only pitched a little over 100 innings last year, his innings will be capped this year, meaning at some point he will have to return to the bullpen if the DBacks want him to still be pitching in August.
Ugly: Here is a partial transcript taken from yesterday’s Web chat with D-backs club president Derrick Hall. It seems as though Schrezer will be returning to the bullpen rather quickly. Good for the D-backs, but bad for fantasy owners.
D-backs club president Derrick Hall fielded questions from fans during his monthly Web chat Thursday. Hall discussed Max Scherzer, the ballpark, the team's upcoming Mother's Day event and more.
punterjoe: Mr. Hall, when Doug Davis returns will Max Scherzer return to the bullpen or be sent down?
Hall: At this point, the plan would be to put him back in the 'pen. Assuming everyone else remains healthy, with Brandon Webb, Dan Haren, Randy Johnson and Micah Owings, it's the likely scenario. We are excited for his starting debut on Monday though.
FAAB analysis:. I’ll take a stab and say the winning bids will avg out to around $250-$275. I imagine a few bids will be in the mid-upper $300’s and someone from Orlando will win him for $10 (with the bid unopposed)!!!
Jeff Clement
Good: Nice all around batting numbers (other than sb). He very well may gain catch eligibility IN THE MONTH OF MAY. It’s not often you can pick up an impact catcher off the waiver wire (20+ hr .285+ avg). I tried to pick him up LAST week, but was overbid. Ugh!
Bad: Couple things.
One – He should play everyday, but I’m not 100% certain about that. MAYBE he will sit against lefties or tough lefties?
Two – Begins the year as only Utility eligible.
Ugly: Small chance that he doesn’t get catcher eligibility until June/July.
FAAB analysis: For some reason, I think a lot of people will be asleep at the wheel with Clement…thus keeping his bids lower than what they should be. Again, I’ll take a stab and say the winning bids will avg out to around $150-$175. I imagine a few bids will be in the $200’s and someone from Orlando will win him for $5 (with the bid unopposed)!!!
Wladimir Balentien
Good: Premier power hitter in the minors. Already hit a homer the first game he was called up to Seattle!! Has some wheels as well.
Bad: He should play everyday, but I’m not 100% certain about that. What happens if he is only hitting .220 a month from now. Will he go back to Triple-A?
Ugly: Strikeout numbers can be excessive. Will keep avg below .280. Maybe below .270.
FAAB analysis: Can be all over the board come Sunday. If he mashes another homer or two between now and Sunday, I’ll say he goes for an average of $200 - $225. NFBC owners LOVE homers, don’t they!! If he doesn’t hit another hr, I’ll say the avg is around $175.
And yes, someone from Orlando will win him for $5 (with the bid unopposed)!!!!!!!!
Running out of time here, so I’ll wrap this up quick…
And now to Mr Liriano….
As most of you know, I mistakenly drafted Liriano in the 8th round this year. He’s been a bust (no surprise there) and can’t even get Triple-A hitters out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heck he had trouble with SINGLE-A hitters this spring!!!!!! For some reason I get the uneasy feeling that he won’t be useful this year, or at least until August or September. Even then, he might simply be an average pitcher that you can get off the waiver wire on any given Sunday. Rosters spots are too valuable to waste on someone who is a ZERO now and could be a ZERO the whole year.
With that said, I told everyone that I will be dropping Liriano this week, and I’m not wavering on what I said. Here is the situation in which Liriano will get waived and back in my league’s FAAB pool…
There are two players right now that I’d consider taking over Liriano, if the price is right. One is Schrezer and the other one will remain a mystery (until Sunday). I will be making bids on both players such that if I acquire them it will be at a discount…which would justify (in my eyes) dropping liriano. If I don’t acquire them, at least I made another owner bid a respectable amount to get them.
REV UP THE FAAB ENGINES!!!! AND IT’S ONLY MAY 2ND!!! GOTTA LOVE IT!!!
See you Sunday!
