the yanks have real problems with their rotation, that is a fact. they say they don't want to put joba in the rotation because they will have to send him to the minors to strecth him out and further weaken abullpen already suffering from the loss of bruney. they say they don't want to mess up the back end of their bullpen with joba pitching the 8th bridging the gap to mariano. the problem is they get to the 8th six runs behind. HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM! so here is a thought, stretch joba out in new york, have one of your better pitchers shore up the bullpen with extra innings AND get him ready for the rotation, AND you don't waste those valuable innings in the minors. what do you guys think? pro and con. GG, if you have cashman's number run the idea by him.

You're exactly right. Sending him to the minors demonstrates the futility of doing things the traditional way without stopping to think. Hell, they could have a bridge from the 5th to the ninth (on certain days, at least) while stretching him out.

It was announced tonight that Chamberlain is being stretched out and will start in the second half.

me thinks the yanks decided a long time ago that the writers and fantasy players didn't need to know this - just them. under cashmen- they may not win every year- but they will get back to being good. they are a team in transition. can they stay the course with youth and good drafts and player development- or will they stray. it takes time and the right mix of vets, guys in prime and youth. the red sox have more of all and can afford for bucholtz to fail- the yanks don't have that margin for error. i will be interested to see how this plays out. i assume they are banking on mussina, pettit or rasner having a short outing maybe twice a week and getting joba in earlier and earlier. the question i have is how many innings does he rack up before he becomes a starter and then how many does he pitch each game after that. you can have a bunch of 6 inning pitchers if you have a bullpen. gee- arizona= qualls, pena, lyon= ist place. cubs howry, marmol wood = 1st place. angels, etc etc. the yanks have hope and prayer until rivera. i think andy pettite may be asked or has been asked if he was willing. or hughes does it. the timing with hughes seems about right. we shall see.

btw- as proof on the bullpen- see the rays. everything good that is happening is the bullpen. the hitting is worse. the defense has also gotten better- but it still isn't good. pitching and defense- it works.
