James Stanard Is Week 10 Winner
Bigtime speed and bigtime power is a deadly baseball combination. For James Stanard, it also proved to be a winning formula last week in the NFBC.
Monster weeks from Chipper Jones, J.D. Drew and Milton Bradley plus a combined 22 stolen bases for his team helped Stanard’s jupiter rovers team in New York League 3 led the way in the NFBC last week with 3,383 points.
Jones (.579-3-6), Drew (.500-3-7-9) and Bradley (.478-5-9-12) led the way offensively. Wandy Rodriguez and Pedro Martinez combined for two wins and 16 Ks while Kerry Wood and George Sherrill combined for eight saves to lead the pitching staff.
“I was lagging in stolen bases bases which puzzled me given that my first two picks were Jose Reyes and Brian Roberts,” Stanard said. “Finally they and others started running. Getting Wandy Rodriguez off of the DL and having a rare good result on the road as part of a double-start week was key for the pitching results.”
Stanard’s top three hitters last week not only shared big weeks at the plate, they also were part of the strategy Stanard employed on Draft Day.
“I took a risk on injury-prone or older players. That’s working out well so far,” said Stanard, whose roster not only includes Jones, Bradley and Drew but also Jeremy Hermida, Jermaine Dye, Ryan Doumit and Hideki Matsui.
Jim is married with two college-age children, one of whom helped him with the draft this year. He is semi-retired and taking part in the NFBC for the first time, having won a free entry satellite league last year.
For finishing first last week, Jim wins a free prize from FansEdge.com.
