I was just wondering what you would do with that ball if you would have caught it??

Almost everyone is saying to give back to Ken Griffey Jr.



I would not give him the ball, I would sell him the ball and put the money into a college fund for my daughter.



I think it's just crazy to say "just give him the baseball, its the right thing to do".



It's one of those things, when sports-reporters, players, and former players keep saying that...it bugs me.



Yes...of course, if I were $RICH$, I'd give the ball to Griffey's son. But, if I am at a Florida Marlins game, sitting in the bleacher seats, wearing a dirty sleveless tee-shirt with jogging pants cut into shorts, no way am I giving that ball to anyone.

Absolutely!!! These guys are HIGHLY PAID entertainers and it's not like it's their first tooth or really something of sentimental value.



I was at the Manny 500th HR and the guy who caught it gave it back to Manny and he's putting it up for Charity Auction. If the guy had alot of money he wouldn't have been sitting in the bleachers at Camden Yards. Makes no sense to GIVE AWAY 200K --just like the idiot who worked for the Cardinals and gave Big Mac his 62nd Hr ball--okay give away 800K--I wonder what he is doing now?



Also, look at what Paps did with the '07 WS ball--his dog ate it as he left it on top of the kitchen counter.



Besides -- If any of these guys really wanted the ball they shouldn't have hit it into the crowd.

The right thing to do????



I have to disagree...sitting in the stands, paying your admission, gives you the right to anything that leaves the field and comes your way. Next time you go to a game, listen to the public address announcer ask you to remain off the field of play, as you will be ejected. That's followed up with fans are asked to pay attention for balls and bats entering the stands. Fans are welcome to keep these as souveneirs.



I agree with someone above who mentioned the kid who got McGwire's 62nd HR and gave it back. What a dope. Probably still selling sodas for $6/hr.



This money can change your life. The argument that the player is entitled to it, is absurd to me. Someone, such as McGwire, Griffey, Ramirez, Bonds, etc is being paid enough to make a bid themselves if the ball means that much to them. I remember McGwire talking about how it should be returned to him when he eventually hit his 62nd HR. he said he wouldn't pay for it, but would give autographed jerseys, bat and balls. (I'll sidestep the whole, steroids and right thing to do discussion.)



Are you kidding me??? Trying to guilt fans into turning over a "winning lottery ticket" to a millionaire. If I had the ball, I'd go on the news and say, "it's your - after you come down to my office, deal with the azzholes I work with, my jerk off boss, getting up early, staying late, not to mention the 1 hour (20 mile) commute stuck in traffic both ways. If you can do this for one year, and get paid less for that you, then you do for a game (15M over 162 games = ~ 92K game) than the ball is yours...otherwise, I'll be putting it up for auction, where I'll tke the money, make sure my first purchase is a sam's club sized jar of apple sauce that I'll force down the night before the morning I walk into my boss's office, drop my pants and let a load go on his keyboard."



All jokes aside though, for players to say or imply it's the right thing for a fan to do in giving back the ball, is difficult for me to accept. What about the rights of the fans who pay to come see you, build you up and create your demand and in turn your large salary?



I heard the guy who caught Maris" 61st HR tried to give it back, and Maris said, thanks, but no thanks. You keep it, maybe you can sell it and get something for it. The guy got $5,000...not applesauce money, but Maris showed class that a lot of today's greedy players wouldn't show.

Regardless of what people may say about Bonds, at least he realized that it was a good thing for people to get his homerun balls. He knew that they were going to make money off of it and he didn't really care. Every time they talked about it at his conferences he would talk about it like a lottery ticket. If I caught it, then I would sell it.
